Promotion

The sound of heels and shoes on the tiled floor echoed as the staff of Grandex company filled into the board room.The staff have been whispering amongst themselves on who would be promoted , some whom the others pointed at rejected it while some accepted it calling the others fools as they didn't like good things.Grandex Board room was strictly for important meeting especially with the CEO or with visitors from other companies who wanted to strike a deal with Grandex company.The staff took their seats whispering on how the meeting would turn out and wondering who would be promoted.Amanda walked in with a brown leather file held across her chest as her red heels clicked on the floor followed by the CEO Cheif Obi in his usual Isi Agu attire but it wasn't the usual red color,it was white and it matched well with his red cap and walking stick.His aura was commanding respect and also intimidating,his gait was like a lion stalking his prey to devour and each staff stood up to welcome their boss on his grand entrance.He sat down and Amanda placed the file on the table before him, standing behind him.Chief Obi opened the file as the staff held their breath as he flipped through each page.The atmosphere was tensed as each person's was alert, watching their boss,the silence in the room made the air-conditioned room suddenly hot."Good morning everyone, it's my pleasure to have this meeting with you all.Ever since this company was established you all have been working tirelessly for the growth of this company and I'm very proud of you all for your active participation and diligence in your work, I'm very happy to have employed the most productive staff across the country and today it's my pleasure to promote one of you who stood out amongst you all "Chief Obi voice echoed through the room as everyone listened with rapt attention,he cleared his throat and continued"But before I proceed,is there anyone who has anything to say ?" He asked as each staff shook their head indicating no one wanted to say anything ,then he looked at them again and looked into the file opened before him"So after thorough observation ,I found one who is worthy of being promoted to the Managing Director of this company ". Everyone gasped as no one has ever been promoted to the Managing Director before, their eyes bulged out in amazement.Chief Obi noticed it , smiling he continued."because I would be traveling to Germany for a month,it's actually for business and I would need someone who would be in charge when I'm not around and that position belongs to....."Everyone in the room held their breath as Chief Obi was about to mention the name of one whom he found worthy"...to Mr.Alex Obiora".A young man in his early thirties,stood up and walked steadily to the center and and stood beside Cheif Obi as a thunderous applaud resounded through the room.Mr Alex Obiora beemed with smiles as his colleagues congratulated him.Chief Obi continued"So as my Managing Director because you earned it, you've been a dedicated worker in the Accounting department for six years and I'm so proud of you,so this is your key to your brand new car"he handed Mr.Alex the key which he received with both hands,his joy knew no bounds.The staff gave him another round of applause"and this key also is to your new home at Banana Island, it's just a small token from the company to reward for your hard work and you have a visa to the U.K to spend a little vacation with your family"A resounding applause roared through the room as they all cheered him and wished him good luck in his new office.Mr.Alex shed tears of joy in front of everyone,he thought he was noticed in the company,but today was the best day in his life,at last God has remembered him and it was when he needed a house.His rent has expired and he hasn't paid for the year and the landlord was in his neck,he used his salary to pay for the contributions of his mother's burial,since he was the first son of the family,the responsibility rested on him the more,his children school fees took some part of his salary and restocking the house took the rest ,so he prayed that the landlord wouldn't appear one day and throw his belongings outside.But today the story changed,he was a house owner and a car owner.Coming to work from his place at Yaba was challenging.The traffic wasn't helping as he sometimes use an okada that can maneuver through the traffic.Chief Obi stood up offering him a handshake and turning to the rest of his employees he said "Now for the rest of you, you must step up your game and be the best,hard work comes with reward,so you must put in your best so that you can be the best.I appreciate you all once again,you have made this company what it is today and may God bless you all in everything you do toady and always."He turned to leave but stopped as he remembered something" Lest I forget,my wonderful secretary here" he beckoned on Amanda " " who looked as if she was lost for a second at the mention of her name"I'm transferring her to my company in America where she'll be the Managing Director there"The staff screamed with joy as Amanda stood shocked to her married,she couldn't believe her ears,she was going to be a Managing Director after all these years,some of the female staff hugged her congratulating her"So you deserve it ,for keeping up with my excesses, sometimes I would shout at her when she ask if I have eaten especially when I client is not meeting up to my standard whenever they want to have a deal with the company and it makes me angry because they don't what I went through before getting to this point,so Amanda meet me in my office to collect your Visa so you can resume work soonest.Thank you and God bless you."Chief Obi concluded the meeting and left with Amanda following him behind with smiles across her face.
