Chapter 4

I couldn't help but interrupt them:

"Can you two stop being all lovey-dovey on the street? Can we please go take care of the paperwork? I'm in a hurry."

"Or do you prefer to be all cuddly in front of your current partner? Come on, I'm eager to get out of your way."

As soon as I spoke up, I easily provoked him.

"Felicity, can you stop making a scene? Look at what you've done to Scarlett, and you're still being snarky!"

"Let me tell you, you're the most unnecessary person here!"

"I order you to come apologize to Scarlett right now!"

Angered by Granger's shamelessness, I turned my head away, only to meet Scarlett's smug smile.

I spat and sneered at them:

"Granger, how dare you ask me to apologize to her?"

"Is it because you ignored me during the avalanche, causing me to miscarry? Or because you pushed me down the stairs and then mocked me?"

"After all these years of marriage, you two have been entangled non-stop. Cheating while married, who's really hurting whom!"

Granger, his face exposed by my words, grew red with anger and shouted at me:

"Well, well! I thought giving you some time would make you reflect on your actions, but you're still so stubborn!""You're not only plotting against Scarlett with malicious intent, but you show no remorse whatsoever. You really are just a selfish, vicious bitch through and through!"

"Someone like you has no right to be a mother! Let me tell you, when that baby's born, I'm taking full custody. If you sincerely apologize to Scarlett, I might consider letting you see the child occasionally. Otherwise, you can forget about ever laying eyes on them!"

His angry shouting drew the attention of passersby.

Soon, people recognized him as the rescue team captain who'd been in the spotlight recently.

They started gathering around to take photos.

Scarlett, worried no one would recognize me, helpfully pointed out who I was.

"Felicity, I know you hate me, but I never imagined you'd try to kill me... To do something so vicious while pregnant, can't you at least try to build up some good karma for your unborn child's sake?"

"I can forgive you, but please, can you stop being angry and targeting me?"

Before she finished speaking, the condemnation against me came pouring in.

"I recognize her - isn't that the evil woman from the internet? Marrying her must be the worst luck ever!"

"That poor child, stuck with a mom like her. Nearly became a murderer before even being born. Have some sense of maternal responsibility, won't you!""Screw her! She dared to kill someone, what's she afraid of now? People like that should've just died on that snowy mountain. I can't believe they even bothered saving her, what a waste of medical resources!"

...

Faced with a barrage of insults, Granger made no effort to defend me.

He stood there with an air of superiority, his eyes filled with disdain for me.

"Are you deaf? I told you to apologize to Scarlett!"

"Apologize? I'll apologize, but you and her need to get on your knees at my child's grave and apologize first!"

"Felicity! You're completely unreasonable!"

"I must have been out of my mind to marry you. Divorce - I'm divorcing you right now. Let me tell you, even if I die in this lifetime, I'll never be with you again!"

I pretended not to notice Scarlett's triumphant smile as I quickly finished the paperwork.

During the process, the staff seemed to recognize us, looking at Granger with sympathy.

I let the onlookers point their cameras at me, their mouths full of vicious curses.

As the online attacks continued to escalate, I couldn't care less.

The harsher the criticism now, the more satisfying it would be to prove them wrong later.

After leaving the courthouse, Granger didn't even glance at me. He put his arm around Scarlett, got in the car, and drove off.She didn't even bother asking about the child's condition.

It saved me from wasting my breath anyway.

I hailed a cab and headed straight for the police station.

On the way, I received a gloating text from Scarlett.

I opened the photo to see Granger with her, picking out hardware for their wedding.

"You could never beat me before, and you've lost again this time. Accept your fate. You're destined to lose in this life and every life after. Your bastard child is destined to never be born!"
