Maki wasn't exactly sure what Tyranitar and Dragonite had discussed. He couldn't understand Pokémon language; his ability to grasp the meanings behind gestures and expressions had only developed after spending extensive time with his Pokémon, such as Cottonee and Charmeleon.
It seemed that some form of negotiation had taken place. After conversing with Tyranitar, Dragonite turned to Maki and pointed toward Celesteela, which was still rampaging through the sky, recklessly unleashing its attacks.
"You want us to stop it?"
"Boo!" Dragonite nodded affirmatively.
Celesteela's ability to fly was a significant disadvantage for Tyranitar, who lacked aerial mobility. It was already at a power disadvantage, and the unfavorable battlefield conditions only made matters worse.
"Alright!" Maki nodded as well. Given the current circumstances, trusting this Tyranitar seemed to be the only viable option. He needed to see what it intended to do.
"Tyran!"
Tyranitar roared, and the surrounding sandstorm intensified dramatically. At the same time, it began to move in a rhythmic motion.
Dragon Dance!
Rather than recklessly charging in, Tyranitar wisely chose to boost its stats first.
Yes, despite how bizarre it seemed, Tyranitar was indeed capable of learning Dragon Dance. It might not look like a dragon, nor did it even possess the Dragon typing, but here it was, utilizing a move that Garchomp would probably cry over—considering Garchomp was the actual land dragon!
"Dragon Dance!" Seeing Tyranitar's actions, Maki refused to fall behind. He instructed Dragonite to do the same, increasing their odds of victory.
After the stat boost, Tyranitar charged forward—but instead of attacking Celesteela in the sky, it rushed toward the altar!
Noticing Tyranitar's movements, Celesteela, which had been wreaking havoc aimlessly, abruptly stopped. It raised its arms high and then dove from the sky at an incredible speed.
Heavy Slam!
A move that became more powerful the greater the weight difference between the user and its target.
Tyranitar was already among the heaviest non-Legendary Pokémon, with an average weight of nearly 200 kilograms. This particular Tyranitar, given its strength, was likely even heavier—possibly nearing half a ton.
However, Celesteela was on an entirely different level. In the games, its recorded weight maxed out at 999.9 kg, the highest possible value. But in reality, a Celesteela standing over nine meters tall would clearly weigh far more than that.
Just like how Wailord, despite its massive size, was only listed as 400 kg in the games—realistically, that was impossible! Even if it were made of water, it would still weigh more.
"Extreme Speed, Dragon Tail!"
If Celesteela's immense weight combined with its high-altitude dive resulted in a direct hit, Tyranitar would be finished in one blow.
Since they had agreed to cooperate, backing down was no longer an option. They had to stand their ground!
The combination of Extreme Speed and Dragon Tail might not be the most powerful attack, but it was the most effective tactic in this scenario.
Dragonite, cloaked in the white glow of Extreme Speed, moved faster than Celesteela's descent. In the blink of an eye, it intercepted the Ultra Beast midair.
Spinning on its axis, Dragonite lashed out with its thick tail, striking Celesteela's body. However, even this powerful blow barely left a mark—its steel-coated body remained smooth and undamaged.
For an instant, there seemed to be a slight dent where it had been struck, but it quickly reverted to its original form.
Despite being Steel/Flying type, Celesteela possessed many traits of Grass-type Pokémon. It could learn moves like Ingrain and Leech Seed, leading many to initially mistake it for a Steel/Grass type.
Its bamboo-like arms further supported that assumption.
These plant-like characteristics granted Celesteela exceptional vitality and an incredibly resilient body.
But Maki hadn't chosen Dragon Tail for its power—he valued its knockback effect instead. After all, Dragon Tail wasn't known for its sheer damage; it was famous for its ability to forcibly reposition opponents.
While Dragonite's attack didn't harm Celesteela significantly, it still managed to send it flying back a fair distance—exactly what Maki had hoped for.
Thanks to Dragonite's interference, Celesteela's attack completely missed its intended target. Instead of crashing into Tyranitar, the Ultra Beast slammed into the ground nearby.
The impact was akin to a meteor striking a planet, leaving behind a crater dozens of meters wide. And that was with Dragonite's intervention—if the attack had gone unimpeded, the devastation would have been even worse.
Fortunately, the nearby Solrock and Lunatone, sensing the danger, had already moved away. Had they been caught in the blast, survival would have been impossible.
Even after falling into the crater, Celesteela quickly flew back out. Somehow, despite its incredible weight, it moved with shocking speed—even without activating its thrusters.
Once its boosters ignited, Celesteela would be no different from a rocket.
"Thunder Punch!"
Against a Steel/Flying type like Celesteela, the only moves that could deal super effective damage were Fire-type and Electric-type attacks. Its typing, similar to Mawile's Steel/Fairy, left it with very few weaknesses and a vast array of resistances.
This was what troubled Maki the most. If an Ultra Beast had to appear, why couldn't it have been Buzzwole? Even Pheromosa would have been better! Against those two, Dragonite at least had a decent chance.
After all, Bug/Fighting was an awful typing. Dragonite could just use Hurricane, and those two glass cannons would be halfway to defeat from a single hit.
Or even Kartana—at least Dragonite could counter it with Flamethrower. But no, of course, it had to be Celesteela, the most problematic one of all.
Celesteela's strength wasn't just about its typing—it also had an extremely balanced stat distribution. Other than its lack of agility, it had virtually no weaknesses.
Kartana, for example, had high Attack, Speed, and Defense, but its Special Defense was abysmal—practically paper-thin!
Seeing Dragonite flying toward it once more, Celesteela realized it needed to get rid of this nuisance first.
As Dragonite's Thunder Punch closed in, Celesteela simply hovered in place. Its metallic body shone even brighter as its defenses increased.
Iron Defense!
Already an incredibly durable Pokémon, Celesteela's boosted Defense now reached an absurd level.
