I put on a fake grin and pretended to be thrilled until Sophia finally fell asleep. Once she was out, I quietly approached one of the medical staff.
"Could you please collect a small saliva sample from the newborn?" I whispered.
After the sample was obtained, I carefully sealed it in a transparent container and headed to the pack's DNA specialist.
"Sophia has no clue I'm requesting this test," I murmured discreetly as I handed over the container. "This must remain confidential. Nobody can find out, especially her."
The specialist nodded, maintaining a professional yet wary expression.
"How long will it take to get the results?" I inquired urgently.
"It will require seven days, Alpha," she replied softly.
For the next week, I acted as a loving father to Liam, carefully hiding my doubts. I couldn't risk Sophia noticing any cracks in my trust.
