Chapter 5

I was just waiting for the news that he had splurged on jewelry for Delia at the auction.

The story hit the trending topics, dominating the headlines.

Everyone was speculating about their relationship.

But Nolan's explanation to me was that it was compensation for my actions.

Even at this moment, he was still lying to me.

I couldn't read anymore. I sent a message to my mom.

Telling her I'd be home first thing tomorrow, just in time for the wedding.

After buying the ticket, I received an email.

It contained a video of Delia and Nolan's wedding photo shoot.

The dress she was wearing was exactly the one I had returned.

The jewelry on her was what Nolan had just picked up from the auction.

All the coincidences pieced together, revealing it was premeditated.

I saved the video and set it to send on a timer.

Nolan would only receive it when the wedding ceremony began tomorrow.

After doing all this, I left home with my suitcase.

For a full day and night, Nolan didn't notice I was gone.

The morning of the wedding, he finally sent a message.

"Darling, wait for me, I'm coming to pick you up right away!"

"I brought your favorite cupcakes, have some first so you don't get hungry with all the wedding bustle."

I opened it to take a look, but didn't respond.Stepping into the wedding venue at that moment, Nolan couldn't find me at home and frantically searched for me.

Nearby employees watched the wedding livestream online, their expressions puzzled.

"Mr. Carlisle, are you mistaken? Miss Frost is indeed getting married today, but... it's to your uncle!"

At the same time, Nolan's phone chimed.

He received an email.

One glance, and his face quickly turned pale.

His assistant stumbled in, holding the hospital agreement.

"It's bad, Mr. Carlisle, Miss Frost has discovered something's wrong with the car accident!"

Nolan froze in place, unable to come to his senses for a long while.

After the shock, he angrily grabbed his assistant's collar.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Didn't the perpetrator already turn themselves in at the police station? How could Melody possibly find out there was a problem with the accident? What exactly is going on?"

The assistant, trembling with fear, stuttered an explanation:

"I don't know either. That driver is indeed in prison, and Miss Frost hasn't even visited him, but she sent over the hospital's surgical agreement – the one you signed for her! And Delia's...""I suspected she had discovered the truth about the car accident."

"I checked with the hospital. Miss Frost visited a day ago, saying she wanted to see the child's body. But it had been disposed of right after the surgery. The hospital barely managed to fool her. Now it seems Miss Frost has caught on to something!"

Nolan's figure swayed unsteadily.

It took him a long while to come back to his senses.

Looking at the video on his phone, he dialed my number with a ghastly pale face.

But call after call went unanswered.

He panicked and turned to head for the door.

Then, amid the crowd, he spotted a striking figure.

Delia, wearing that wedding dress, gazed at him from afar across the sea of people.

Her face bore the despair and desolation of someone about to lose their beloved.

In the past, Nolan would have rushed to her without hesitation.

But now, he simply walked up to Delia and held out his phone with the video, demanding:

"Did you send this to Melody?"

"Answer me!"
