Chapter 4

Delia walked to the corner, eyeing me with a challenging look.

"Cut the act, I know you've figured it out already."

"You heard everything just now, didn't you? If I were you, I'd be too ashamed to stick around."

"Nolan said you're as stiff as a board in bed, clueless about any kind of fun. No wonder you can't keep a man, can't even keep a baby. You deserved to get dumped!"

Having already decided to leave, her words could no longer provoke any emotion in me.

"Oh really? Such a great man, you two are perfect for each other. A bitch and her dog, together forever."

I turned to leave.

She quickly glanced behind her.

Then she stepped forward and tumbled straight down the stairs.

Nolan rushed over, his eyes red.

He shoved me hard.

Delia was gathered into his arms.

She looked at me, her eyes full of resentment.

"Melody, you followed me?"

"Delia's already left the company, what more do you want? I just came to check on her out of kindness, as her former boss. Did you really need to get physical and hurt someone?"

"When did you become like this?"

So, this was who I was in his heart.

"What? Feeling hurt now? Is this what you meant by 'no contact'? Is this what you meant by 'don't know each other'?""Nolan, I should be the one asking these questions."

"Don't you owe me an explanation?"

He furrowed his brow, a flicker of panic flashing in his eyes.

"What explanation? There's nothing between Delia and me. I don't understand what you're talking about."

"An employee mentioned something, so I came to check on her out of kindness. It's that simple. If you want to blow this out of proportion, I have nothing more to say. Think what you want."

Delia clung to his shoulder, hiding in his embrace.

Her tone was pitiful, but her gaze towards me was defiant.

"Mr. Carlisle, please don't blame Miss Frost. I just lost my balance. I'm sorry for interrupting your wedding photo shoot. I'll leave now. Don't argue because of me."

"Stop being stubborn. It's clear she pushed you, and you're still defending her."

"I'll take you back. Let her reflect on her actions."

Nolan left with Delia in his arms, without sparing me another glance.

My nails dug deep into my palms, but the pain from the car accident scrapes paled in comparison to my heartbreak.

I found the hospital's nursing station and asked them to retrieve the miscarriage records from the car accident a month ago.

Along with Delia's surgery agreement from the same day.

I printed them out and mailed them to Nolan's company.

If I timed it right, he should receive them on the wedding day.Later that evening, Nolan sent a message to explain.

"Don't overthink what happened today. Delia was a former employee of the company after all, and it wouldn't look good if word got out. I've already had her checked by a doctor, and she's fine. Just wait for me at home like a good girl."

"Darling, be a good girl, I've got a surprise prepared for you."

I smirked sarcastically and deleted his message.

I threw everything in the house that belonged to me into the trash.

Early the next morning, Nolan called, his voice frantic.

"Darling, did you return the wedding dress? I designed that myself. Why did you return it?"

Looking at the wedding plan my mom had sent on my phone, I casually explained:

"It's nothing. The size was wrong. I've lost weight and it doesn't fit anymore, so I switched to a different one."

"That's good then. Once I'm done with work, I'll come back to take photos with you. Don't be mad, okay?"

I never got the wedding photo shoot he promised.
