The look of favoritism didn't escape Nolan's notice.

He found it increasingly difficult to speak.

"Um, I'm here for the wedding reception."

"Un... Uncle, congratulations."

The emotion in his eyes momentarily made me feel like we'd returned to the past.

But the rift between us was so clear.

There was no going back.

Neither of us could go back.

I got my wish and married this year, to a stranger I'd only met twice.

And he, as he wished, became the head of a publicly traded company.

We both moved towards better futures.

Yet we no longer had any connection.

I smiled and nodded, following Quint to toast him.

As I drained my glass in one gulp, I caught a fleeting tear in the corner of his eye.

Five years of feelings led him to leave us with one last moment of dignity.

Until the wedding ended, he didn't speak again.
