Chapter 27 - Untimely Advance

Isabella’s POV

“That’s impossible! She wouldn’t do that!” Eva yelled into the phone, jumping from her chair. She began to pace anxiously as she listened to the other person’s response.

“Nick, you know she’d never—it’s fine. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

After she ended the call, she seemed a bit dazed for several seconds, and I started to get worried.

“Eva, what is it?” I finally asked when she remained silent.

My question appeared to shake her from her stupor, and she began frantically tapping away at the screen. I waited patiently.

When she was done, she looked up at me with what could only be described as devastation.

“What’s wrong?” I stood from my chair and approached her.
