Isabella’s POV
I released a breath of relief when my eyes met Ethan’s, and I hurried forward, eager to relay everything I’d found out.
“Thank goodness you’re okay. I—”
“York, I told you I didn’t want any distractions,” Ethan interrupted, looking over my head to York, who was now standing behind me. His voice was cold. And there was no acknowledgment that he’d even seen me.
I heard York stammer out an apology from behind me.
“I trust that you can handle this,” Ethan continued.
I raised a brow at that. Handle this? As in me? And had he referred to my presence here as a distraction? I quickly quelled the anger threatening to rise, reminding myself I was there to save his life.
Before I could say anything else, Ethan turned and walked away. His reaction blindsided me for a long moment, so I stood there frozen in disbelief until York’s voice pulled me from my stupor.
“I’m sorry, Miss Isabella, but I think it’s best if you head back home for now. At least until he calms down.”
