Isabella’s POV

I blinked in surprise. “Really?”

He looked like he was chewing glass when he affirmed. “Really.”

To say I was surprised would be an understatement. My overprotective husband, who wouldn't let me take two steps off our estate without guards trailing after me, was going to let me stay in enemy territory?

As if he had read my mind, he released a sound of exasperation.

“I have a feeling I won't be able to stop you even if I want to. The only other option is to help you in every way that I can.”

I knew my shock was plain to see on my face. “You've changed.”

Ethan's eyes narrowed in a mock glare, “No need to sound so surprised.”

I bit back a small smile. His hold on my wrist loosened, and he slid it down to cradle my hand in his.

His expression eased into one of serious consideration. 

“Those first few days I spent looking for you, I felt like I was losing my mind. And amidst all that, I…I realized it was my fault.”
