"Splitting up, splitting up, it's always about splitting up! Noah, what's your aim here? Didn't I make it clear I'm against breaking up?"
"It's just a social media update from Oliver. Why are you making such a fuss?"
Emma sounded irritated.
I could hear Oliver's insincere, soft voice in the background.
"Emma, I apologize. This is on me. Allow me to clarify things with Noah."
Feeling sick to my stomach, I wanted to end the call immediately.
But Emma suddenly shouted, "Be quiet! This is between Noah and me. It's none of your business!"
Her outburst caught me off guard.
It seemed Emma had never spoken to him so harshly before, and Oliver was equally shocked.
After about a minute of quiet, I heard Oliver's remorseful voice.
"I'm sorry, Emma..."
Then something occurred, and Emma abruptly began calling his name with worry.
The line went dead.
Despite not being present, I could imagine Oliver was playing the victim once more.
Emma always fell for his act.
