Chapter 7

I responded without hesitation, "Our relationship is over. If you're expecting Oliver's baby, you should be with him openly."

"Slap—" Emma struck me across the face before I could finish speaking.

The impact was so strong that it jerked my head to the side.

When I looked back at her, I saw fury blazing in her reddened eyes.

"Noah! You've crossed a line!" she shouted.

I tasted copper in my mouth, probably from the blow.

I wanted to question why she thought I was being unfair. Each present she'd given me represented another instance of her unfaithfulness—had I wrongly accused her?

But I couldn't bring myself to speak. I was too exhausted to dispute with her. After all, we were no longer together. Why make things unpleasant?

"If there's nothing else, you should leave," I said evenly. "We've already split up, so what's the point of staying here?"
