ARE YOU LYING?

~{FRANCES' POV}~

*

(FIVE DAYS LATER)

As long as I was in the room, I couldn't use my cells. It was like I was rendered powerless.

Thankfully and strangely, Logan never came to see me. Well, how could he when the room was well guarded?

The door to the room I was confined in slowly opened and in came Officer Zillah.

"You have a visitor," she announced before letting the person in.

It was Rene.

The moment she saw me, she smiled in relief and so did I. This was the first time I was seeing her since when I was confined.

When she entered, Zillah shut the door behind her, leaving us alone. I quickly hurried up to Rene and we embraced.

I really missed her but I missed Luke more.

"Five days feels like a month, Frances." Rene whined and I nodded in agreement.

"Don't worry, you'll be out soon." She assured me.

"How certain are you?"

"Why do you think they let me see you?" She asked back and I frowned in confusion.

If they were going to let me out does this mean I would be judged?

I was about to start panicking when she said another thing.

"They've successfully gathered all the goblins and Fae. Turns out you're safe Frances. There are no other night creatures other than them," she excitedly said and I stared at her in confusion.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, they did a thorough search. They even found Miss Mariah Oswald," she revealed and I sighed in relief.

But at the same time I wasn't fully relieved.

Deep down I knew there were more.

What would've happened if I hadn't gone back in time after I and Officer Zillah encountered a werewolf and some witches. I could vividly remember them so clearly. If they happened to find them then I would be done for.

"You're safe, Frances."

I slowly nodded and played ignorant.

"How about you guys? Is Logan still bothering you?" I asked in concern and curiosity.

"Not at all, it's like he vanished into thin air. And as for Faith, she's doing great."

"Is she here?" I asked.

"No. But when you get out of here, we'll go see her," Rene eagerly said and I nodded while thinking about Logan.

Where did he go?

It was strange. Very strange.

Was he planning something?

"Halloween has passed and we'll no longer be under their scrutiny," she eagerly said and I smiled.

After a moment of silence, I finally said something I have never believed I would say.

"I feel it's time we draw the curtain on Halloween," I said while being careful with my words because I suspected they were listening to us.

Initially when I saw Officer Zillah let Rene in, I knew something was off especially when Zillah gave me a deep look before looking around as if passing a message I should take seriously.

When Rene was about to speak, I gave her a stern look and she quickly adjusted before stealthily looking around.

"True. The whole reminder of it from our Mayor is quite disturbing and I feel it shouldn't be spoken about in general. Let everyone just live his or her life without having to think about it." Rene said and I nodded.

After some minutes, the door opened and in came Zillah.

"Rene, it's time to go."

At that announcement, I felt sad until she shifted her attention and said.

"As for you Frances, you'll be coming with me."

*********

I quietly followed her to an investigation room and took a seat when she told me to do so.

Once I had settled down, Zillah left and I looked around while trying to remain calm.

Not too long, the door opened and in came Officer Greene, Zillah and …..

I slowly got up on my feet as awe covered my face. I couldn't believe who I was seeing after all these years.

Was I seeing right at all?

It couldn't be.

"I'm sure you remember him right? So let's skip that part and get right into it." Mr Greene declared and I blinked in confusion as I shifted my attention to him.

Get right to what?

When I shifted my attention back to the calm young man, I went back to being shocked.

Ever since Logan died, he refused to meet me. It was a very bitter moment especially how he treated me like I had killed his best friend.

And after ranting at me on the day Logan was buried, he vanished…like he never existed.

Thinking about the past hurt like hell due to how I was treated badly like a true outcast all because Logan died trying to save me.

"Please sit down Miss Frances," Mr Greene instructed and I did what he said while watching the young man sit before me with such gracefulness.

When his gaze met mine, I quickly looked away for fear that he might see my deepest secrets.

"Look at me," I heard him say and like I was under some sort of influence, I looked directly into his eyes.

Meeting Joe Darwin like this brought back a bittersweet moment especially when we parted ways.

"Did you let those creatures in?"

"Yes," I responded out of my will and he arched a brow at me like he didn't believe it.

"Did you bring Logan back to life?"

When he asked that question, I heard his voice shake slightly like it affected him.

"Yes," I replied and it baffled me at my straightforwardness.

"How?" He went on to ask.

"I don't know," I truthfully said and he squinted his eyes at me before asking another question.

"Are there other creatures apart from the Faes and Goblins?"

At his question, my lips moved on its own accord.

"No," I answered and it surprised me that I had actually lied.

Joe possessed white cell and could make people confess their motives or tell the truth.

"Why did you go to Rene's house that night?"

"To sleepover," I lied again.

"Do you and your friend practice any forbidden act?"

At his question I shook my head but went on to say, "No," and it baffled me because no one could lie to a white cell. Their abilities always work no matter who you are.

If I wasn't being affected by Joe's ability then did it mean I had a resistance ability?

"Are you lying?" he finally asked and arched a knowing brow at me.

"Yes," I responded truthfully to my dismay.
