CHECKMATE

~{LOGAN'S POV}~

*

"But come to think of it, Frances. Why did Logan keep telling you it was your doing? Could it be that he already knew you could move places?"

I quietly stood outside as I listened to everything they said, mostly to Frances' responses.

The person who asked that question was quite smart. I knew about her Gold cell abilities because I experienced every bit of it even though Frances forgot she ever manifested them. And the very first time I witnessed it was when I had pushed her into the river, causing her to summon a mermaid. I will never forget that day.

After a while, I heard Frances answer.

"I'm not sure. If he knew he would've told me about it," she said and I closed my eyes briefly.

What a way to lie.

Everytime she showed her ability, I would instantly tell her about it and ask her how she was able to do such but she would claim ignorance.

When I looked at each and every one of them through the window including the Luke guy, I became agitated.

Why did Frances even decide to date the Mayor's son?

Was she looking for someone with great authority and supremacy?

And as if to make things more difficult for me, Luke went and pulled her in for a hug to which she accepted.

Watching them made me feel more broken than I already was. Didn't I mean anything to her?

Just the way that question came was how the answer came. I meant nothing to her.

It was a painful reality I wasn't willing to accept.

Turning around, I decided to walk away but I stopped and looked at the house again as my hands turned to fists.

"I'm a monster after all. So let me take it to my advantage," I declared.

~{LUKE'S POV}~

"We'll figure this out okay?"

I tried to assure her even though I didn't know how to go about it and she nodded while looking at me with so much hope.

"Luke? We have a problem."

At Mathew's words, I turned around and found Joe moving like he was trying to fight the illusion which was very strange. No one could escape my illusion.

After a while, he stopped and turned around to face all of us. Initially he had almond eyes if I was right but now they were completely grey in color.

Frances gasped in fear and I looked at her with a frown on my face.

"It's Logan," she breathlessly said and I faced Joe who grinned at me before taking a bold step in our direction.

"What do you want?" I boldly inquired while taking a bold stance in front of Frances.

The others couldn't do anything because they knew how strong he was and another reason why they couldn't attack him was because they wouldn't be attacking him but the very person he possessed.

"Didn't I warn you to stay away from her?"

At his question, I made sure to hide Frances behind me just in case he decided to do something rash.

"Get out! We don't want you here!" Job yelled at him and was about to attack him when all Joe did was wave his hand at him and the next moment, Job froze in place before facing us with his eyes purely grey.

"Get him," Joe ordered Job and he quickly rushed at me and grabbed me by the arm.

"Fuck of Job!" I yelled while trying to push him away but he was relentless. And once Joe saw that Job was finding it hard to drag me away from Frances, he approached me and was about to grab me when I was suddenly sucked away by an unknown force.

When I looked around, I frowned on noticing that we weren't in Rene's apartment anymore but in the garden close to the town hall.

Confused, I looked around just to find Frances staring at me as she held onto my shirt.

"I just had to," she said and I sighed.

"I'm still trying to digest the fact that you can move places, Frances," I let her know.

"And so am I," she answered and held my hand while looking around as if she would spot Logan.

It was broad daylight and people were moving around without minding if we were there or not because it was an ordinary thing to use our cells as we please.

"Let's head to my place," I said and was about to walk out of the garden when Logan himself appeared in front of us with a nonchalant look.

"Let her go now that I'm being nice, Luke. And let me remind you that she's not the only one who can move places," he warned.

"Stop this Logan!" Frances yelled at him and I could sense the frustration in her voice but Logan didn't even give her his attention, rather his focus was strictly on me.

"Take your hand off her," Logan warned again but I didn't budge.

And as we kept staring at each other, I tried to push him into an illusion using his eyes as a gateway but it refused to work on him and I gasped in horror.

"You have a long way to go, Luke. Maybe you should learn a thing or two from those faes," he said and I glared at him.

When I refused to budge, he smirked and the next moment, he was right in front of me and before either of us could act, he placed a hand on my shoulder and cheerfully said, "CHECKMATE."

And we both vanished.

The next time I blinked, we were in a deserted place and as I looked around and up in the sky, I noticed that it was purple in color and realization dawned on me.

Did Frances unintentionally transport us to the place she mentioned?

"I did," someone responded and when I looked behind me, I found Logan staring up in the sky just the way I had done.

Slowly, he brought his gaze back to me and I realized that his eyes were red instead of grey and instead of wearing my red hoodie, he had on a black long coat on a black outfit. And his hair was styled in a messy curl.

"Welcome to my world, Luke Wilfred," he cheerfully said and turned around as he began to walk away to my dismay.
