Troublemaker

Ethan's POV

I was angry that Meliza remained strong and defiant, even when I knew she was scared. Her pride would only make her suffer in the end, and it pissed me off that she couldn't even manage a simple thank you after I saved her life.

I couldn't deny the relief I felt when she finally woke up, but frustration quickly overshadowed that relief. She acted like she owed me nothing, as if my help had been expected, not earned.

I didn't know what had gotten into me. I even tried to cover her hospital bills, only to be stunned when I found out someone else had already made a deposit of more than enough to cover all her medical expenses.

Confused, I turned to my cousin, hoping for answers.

"Did you pay for Meliza's hospital bills?" I asked.

He shook his head, looking just as surprised as I was. "No. I thought you did."

I frowned. "Are you sure?"

"Yeah," he said, giving me the same suspicious look I was throwing at him.
