Ethan's POV
Even later in the day, when I finally saw Meliza again, I found myself too drained to deliver my usual snarky remarks. The energy to pick a fight, to throw careless words at her just to see if she'd flinch, wasn't there.
For the first time, I had nothing to say to her.
I chose to ride with them on the coaster instead of driving my own car, telling myself it was just for convenience. I didn't want to deal with traffic or the hassle of parking. But deep down, I knew the real reason.
I didn't want to be alone with my thoughts, but somehow, I ended up sitting beside her. It wasn't intentional—at least, that's what I told myself. I hesitated for only a fraction of a second before sliding into the seat.
I expected her to shift away, to create distance, but she didn't. She simply folded her hands in her lap, staring straight ahead as if I weren't even there.
The silence between us was louder than any conversation we had ever had.
