Back in New York...
Mr. Everette had followed his men to the hospital where Ava was admitted. He had begged and caused a lot of crazy drama to let her see her adopted daughter.
FLASHBACK...
"Let me see my daughter. I was told she was admitted here," Mr. Everette yelled at the doctor again.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Everette, but I don't know about the lady you are talking about. We have so many patients who are receiving treatment here. But there is one particular patient; she was our VIP patient," the doctor said, trying to stop Mr. Everette from yelling and making so much noise in the hospital.
"Yes, that must be my daughter. Tell me her ward; I want to see my daughter," Mr. Everette yelled again angrily.
"Sorry about the VIP patient; she is in a coma and I'm not sure when she will wake up alive again," the doctor said again, causing Mr. Everette to look even madder and more restless.
"What did you say? My daughter is in a coma? Where are those bastards that hit my daughter? They caused her pain; where the fuck are they?" Mr. Everette yelled madly again.
"You must be mistaken, but anyway, Mr. Everette, the patient was moved out of our hospital very early today. So I can't help you more than this information I'm telling you," the doctor said, causing Mr. Everette to look restless and ask coldly.
"Where did they take her to? You just mentioned she is in a coma," Mr. Everette said angrily.
"About that, I can't tell you, so if you can excuse me, please," the doctor said and walked away, leaving Mr. Everette standing there.
Mr. Everette was so mad and restless. He stormed out of the hospital, having no choice but to pay Jackson his debt.
But Jackson had some information about the incident, and he thought a good opportunity would come to use in the future.
"How about we make a deal, Mr. Everette?" Jackson said with a meaningful smile.
"What deal, Mr. Jackson?" Mr. Everette asked nervously.
"I will wait until we find your daughter, then you will hand her over to me when you get her. How about that? I'm giving you a rare opportunity, Mr. Everette; to see how nice I am to you," Jackson said with a chuckle.
"What! You are willing to wait until we get her? What if it takes years to find her, or what if we never see her again?" Mr. Everette said, looking confused.
"Just let's stick to the plan for now. I will leave that to you," Jackson said, crossing his legs with an air full of arrogance and cold charisma.
"Okay, I think I should take my leave now. I won't give up looking for her," Mr. Everette said and left Jackson's mansion with his men.
Mr. Everette got home; his mood was better and relaxed.
He walked to meet his wife, who had been waiting patiently for him to return.
"How was it, honey?" Mr. Everette said as she stood up to hug her husband.
"Well, I made a deal with Jackson again since we couldn't find her yet," Mr. Everette said with a relaxed face. His voice was calm, and his nervousness and restless mind had all relaxed again.
"What deal did you make with him again?" Mrs. Everette asked calmly. She could feel her husband's calmness, thinking it was a good deal.
"He gave me time to look for her. He said he would wait until he has her," Mr. Everette said again.
Mrs. Everette was shocked and confused.
"What is so special about her that he is willing to wait? Does he secretly like that girl? What if he likes her? If that's the case, why don't you talk to him again so he can take our daughter?" Mrs. Everette said softly.
"I don't care what is special about that girl, but I'm certain he doesn't like her; he wants her for his reasons, which he described as personal. If he liked her, he would have told me immediately that he wanted her. Let's not worry about that. The most important thing is I don't have to face any problems with my company until we get her. Let's eat, honey; I'm so hungry," Mr. Everette said calmly and walked ahead of his wife to the dining area.
FLASHBACK END...
It's been months since Mr. Everette hasn't given up on finding Ava. He has to get her.
---
It's been two months since Ava was discharged from the hospital, and she has been on medication until now to get better.
But it's been eight months since she had an accident, ran away from home, and ended up in a coma for six months.
Today, she had a dream. She dreamt about finding out that Mr. and Mrs. Everette aren't her biological parents. She ran away but met with an accident. She was hit by a car.
She remembered everything. Her memory is back.
Ava sat up straight on the bed with tears as all the memories refreshed in her head.
She thought about how she was treated differently and wondered why she was being treated differently from her younger sister. The truth is now clear to her: she was just an adopted daughter.
Her adoptive parents didn't care for her because she wasn't their biological daughter.
They cared about Abigail, but they never cared for her.
She remembered how they almost sold her off to a stranger.
She cried so much until she was tired and couldn't cry anymore.
"Mr. Jeffrey needs to know I'm fine now. I regained my memory, and I should find a way out of this place. He has helped me a lot by not letting me die even though his car hit me. He didn't just save my life; he saved me from those monsters. I don't want to be a burden to him," Ava thought while she waited for Jeffrey to come back from the office.
She didn't eat and waited for Jeffrey to return so she could tell him about regaining her memory and strength and also thank him for how much he had taken care of her.
Jeffrey came back from the office and walked into the house; he met Ava sitting on one of the couches in the sitting room. He was surprised to see her because she was always in her room.
Ava stood immediately when she spotted him walking into the house. She walked to him and greeted him.
"Welcome back, Mr. Walton," Ava said with a rare smile that Jeff had never seen before.
Jeffrey furrowed his brows; his expression was cold, calm, and tired.
"Is there anything you need?" Jeff asked while he walked ahead of Ava, making his way to the stairs.
"Huh, wait, Mr. Walton. I'm sorry, but I'd love to have a conversation with you. Please join me for dinner," Ava said, which made Jeffrey stop in his tracks as he turned back to look at her.
This was the first time in so many years someone had boldly asked him to eat with them.
He never liked to eat with anyone because he was used to being alone and eating alone.
He wanted to decline Ava's request, but he wondered what the young lady had to discuss with him, so he walked to the dining room without saying a word.
Ava followed behind as both sat in the dining area across from each other.
The food was served while Ava served herself and started eating.
"What do you have to discuss with me?" Jeff said coldly while looking at the food that was his favorite, nonetheless.
"Why don't you taste your food first?" Ava said while she continued eating.
"I don't like to discuss things while eating," Jeff said again coldly.
Ava stopped eating and looked up at him.
"I cooked the food. I asked the maid to tell me your favorites, then I cooked everything you liked with my recipe. I wanted to thank you for taking care of me. You saved my life," Ava said while Jeff frowned.
"You don't have to do this. I only saved your life because my car hit you, so I took responsibility for that," Jeff frowned as he said.
Ava sighed and smiled.
"But you didn't leave me to die. You flew me here while I was in a coma for my safety, and until today, you made sure I recovered well. And today, I regained my memory. Thanks to you," Ava said, causing Jeff's mouth to twitch.
"Well, good that you have your memory back," Jeff said, his voice calm and cold.
"So now that I'm fine, I would like to tell you that I will take my leave soon. You have helped me a lot, and now that I have recovered and gained my strength, I should not stay here any longer. I don't want to be a burden or be so indebted to you," Ava said and continued.
"But is it okay if I don't return to New York and just live my life here? I don't have family back there anymore," she said sadly, looking down at her food.
"How you want to live your life is not my problem anymore," Jeff said coldly, not thinking too much about his harsh words.
Ava chuckled lightly.
"So cold, but deep down, you're kind. Don't you want to know anything about why I was running and why I was hit by your car that day?" Ava asked, looking at him, but Jeff could only stare.
