chapter 6: talismans?, what’s next? immortality …

Kai lei woke up,he had been Accompanying the caravan for 5 days since the robbery attempt.

His rewards for the five days were,1,800 Han dynasty soldiers(leather Lamellar armor, red robes) ,and over 10,000 gold taels, and 8 healing pills ..

Kai lei had to admit this was a lot for him, he had been inquiring about the world from his mother in law who came to check in every now and then..

What he found out was that this world used to be a cultivation world until 3,000 years ago,when a cataclysmic event shook the world.

He had tried to ask for more information but lady Daiyu didn't answer only smiling at him, Kai lei had also found out that the world is more chaotic than he thought, just 100 gold taels can buy a lot more than he originally thought..

For example if he paid just 10 taels of gold he could get enough food and grass to raise a small army of 20-40 men fully equipped with leather armor and weapons, if he added horsemen instead of soldiers he could get a small Calvary of 5 men with slightly decent horses.

Kai lei recovered from his thoughts as he smelt a bowl of porridge, he looked over to see Mei hong holding out both her hands with a bowl in them, subconsciously he grabbed the bowl.

"I made it, hope you like it" Mei hong said with a smile.

Kai lei looked at the porridge,it was more water than food but he gulped it down as he saw her red fingers from cooking and her expectant look..

"Delicious thank you for the food!" Kai lei said and smiled.

Mei hong excitedly nodded and said, "good I'll make your meals from now on".

Hearing her speak Kai lei's expression froze,Kai lei looked closely at her hands and found that were seriously burnt and he said.

"I would love to enjoy your cooking every single day, but please don't hurt yourself" he spoke with genuine concern as he grabbed her fingers gently.

Mei hong winced in slight pain, but quickly nodded shyly.

"Eat this" Kai lei said holding a healing pill to her mouth, he knew it was excessive for a burns but all of her fingers were really burned if not treated in time she could be left with scars..

"Ah, okay" Mai gong thought it was a candy and opened her mouth.

Kai lei saw her eat it and sighed in relief, Mei hong looked at her hands that were tingling and blinked in surprise ,looking at Kai lei she wanted to speak but Kai lei said.

"It's our secret" with a wink, she nodded with excitement that she knew her future husband's secret .

After a few more days of traveling and seeing the devastation of warfare he finally made it to the city, in front of his eyes was a massive plaque with the name yingchuan

Kai lei understood why he only had Han dynasty soldiers in the sign in, shaking his head he followed the caravan deep into the city.

As Kai lei drew closer to the inner city, he felt more anxious as the caravan approached the gate to the inner city, Kai lei finally understood as the guards saluted towards lady Daiyu's carriage.

He done did mess up, maybe if he was more low-key and didn't reveal that he had "friends" in the Han dynasty, he would've not been as nervous as he was now..

Kai lei's dread only spread as he got closer to the the royal palace, Kai lei saw more soldiers and servants bowing as the caravan went deeper..

Kai lei: "…"

He was speechless as he entered the palace, Kai lei wanted to go back in time and slap himself, but alas ,Kai lei felt as the caravan stopped, he dejectedly got out and looked at the magnificent palace with a bitter expression.

He looked and saw lady Daiyu and Mei hong walking towards the interior of the palace like they owned it, Kai lei walked behind them trying to regain his composure..

A few minutes of walking in silence and people bowing, Kai lei made it to the throne room where he saw lady Daiyu sitting on the throne…

Kai lei threw his composure out the window as he looked shocked with his mouth big enough to stuff a egg, Kai lei mechanically followed the other ministers and scholars as they did a salute…

Lady Daiyu saw Kai lei's expression and smiled.

"All rise!!,speak if you have something to say if not you may retire from the court!" A eunuch's shrill voice sounded out.

Kai lei looked around and saw that no one was going to say anything before he lowered his head not daring to speak as he had yet to understand the power dynamics of the dynasty…

Lady Daiyu smiled at the two year old child, he was smarter than she thought..

"Little child, where are your soldiers I was promised, hmm?" Lady Daiyu's voice was not loud yet it entered the ears of everyone..

"Reporting to your majesty, they are outside the city" a child's small voice startled the group of ministers and generals to look towards the voice.

"Oh ,really?" Lady Daiyu's words were very loud yet gentle.

"Yes, your majesty they are outside the city gates waiting for your orders" Kai lei said as he maneuvered the system to spawn the soldiers in front of the gates silently..

"Hmm, you go check" lady Daiyu said as she pointed to a young military minister, the man was startled and dared not be slow, disregarding their image they ran like there was a brand new courtesan at the tea house that's yet to be touched…

After a while the military minister came back in a disheveled state, and bowed not taking a breath he said.

"There are 200 soldiers at the gates" his words made the room go silent as the gazes turned to the young child in the room.

One of the ministers couldn't help but say.

"Child, go home to your mother, this courtroom is not a place for children" he said in a voice that was full of amusement .

"Mister minister" Kai lei said with a childlike smile , then continued.

"Shut it, or i will personally execute your clan" his voice echoed through the crowd, the man was indignant and started to curse the child.

"Enough" before the minister's friends started to yell out your majesty I beg your decree, lady Daiyu said silencing the minister.

"Child do you know your mistake?" Lady Daiyu said with a cold smile at Kai lei.

Kai lei's body shivered as he immediately began begging for mercy.

"Yes,I beg your forgiveness your majesty" was all he said before he shut his mouth.

The rest of the court was a breeze untill lady Daiyu decreed.

"Pass my decree,The child known as Kai lei shall be married to my daughter" and ignoring the pleas of the ministers she left with a smile on her lips.

Kai lei knew this was lady Daiyu's way of telling him, show your power or be killed by the ministry.

Kai lei was lead to a garden by a servant,Kai lei looked at the garden and walked leisurely as the servant left.

The garden was certainly unique with the many flowers and fauna that were present, Kai lei walked into a secluded pathway and stopped.

"Come out" as he spoke over a dozen palace servants armed with sticks and knives came out surrounding the small child.

"You shouldn't have insulted the minister" a female servant spoke as she walked to the child with a stick raising it in the air.

"Kill them all" Kai lei said, the woman looked at the child and started laughing.

"Haha, who are you speak—-" before the woman could finish her sentence a sword was thrusted into her back penetrating the heart and killing her.

Kai lei looked around at the dozen dead servants, then at the few soldiers he just spawned and nodded in thanks.

"Let's go" he uttered a perfunctory sentence and then left the garden.

"Any news?" Asked a man in blue attire, his face was happy with glee, imagining the child's head on a platter.

"They have died" said his assistant blandly.

"What!?, oh well ignore the child for now" the man said, clearly not caring about a few dead servants, he had a keen intuition and decided to ignore the child for now thinking he was protected by the empress..

"Yes" was all that was heard, before the room fell silent..

Mei hong excitedly told her mother about her husband being amazing unintentionally revealing that he healed her burns.

"Yeah, yeah mother, he is so kind he even gave me a pill that healed me" Mei hong said showing her mother the hands and fingers that were mostly healed.

Lady Daiyu smiled while patting her head, a servant came and whispered in her ear before leaving.

"Go tell the child he can have those men as personal guards but that's it" lady Daiyu said to a eunuch that was next to her.

The man nodded and went to pass the decree..

Kai lei saw the chicken less man leave and sighed.

'This mother in law is scary' Kai lei thought while looking at the transportation talisman, it was a paper the size 6 inches tall and 2 inches wide, there were what can only be called runes imbedded into the paper.

Kai lei understood how to use it, you rip the paper while thinking of a place and it sends you there.

"Quite simple really" Kai lei mused aloud while looking at the paper, turning it over he saw that the paper had two lines in the middle indicating that the paper could be used twice if used correctly.

Kai lei played with it for a while longer before he began to head to bed, lady Daiyu placed him in a small mansion near the palace, it had 6 rooms and a small courtyard, pretty little compared to the other massive courtyards and mansions, but Kai lei didn't care.

"Sign in" Kai lei said, getting a few dozen swords and shields..

After arranging the guards to stay in a room by the small gate he went to sleep…
