Calista shook her head in disbelief , she wondered, "what was so awesome about being a Luna".
Life in the palace was hardly a fairy tale, especially for someone like Aurora, who was too soft-hearted for such a cutthroat world. Calista gave her friend a quizzical look and finally asked the obvious question.
" Are you even invited to the banquet?".
As if her most cherished moment had just been popped, she pouted" no, unfortunately I wasn't invited" she replied sadly.
Aurora grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her lightly. "What if he's my Prince Charming, Cali? What if I'm meant to meet him? I can't just miss my destiny over a little thing like an invitation!"
She sighed, patting Aurora's shoulder in mock sympathy. "Listen, you'll survive, banquets or not. One day, you'll stumble into Prince Charming while tripping over your skirts at the market." She flashed a sly grin. "Hopefully, he'll find clumsiness endearing."
"Very funny." Aurora narrowed her eyes. "But this could be my moment!" Her face lit up with sudden determination. "Actually, I have an idea: let's just… sneak in!"
Calista froze, immediately wary of where this was heading. "No. Absolutely not."
"Aw, come on!" Aurora begged, tugging on Calista's sleeve like a child pleading for sweets. "If we dress as servants ..or I don't know.., disguise ourselves as men, no one will notice. You're clever, you'll come up with something!"
" No," Calista replied flatly, her brows furrowed. She doesn't want to go the banquet , she doesn't want to be in the midst of sophisticated idiots, who smile at you while planning to unalive you.
Aurora began begging, pouting at her, humping and throwing a fit around her. Well she knew Calista had a soft spot for her. Because Calista regards her as a sister.
" Hell no" Calista replied firmly, " if you do this for me, then I will own you one, please Calista, hmm?" She begged with droopy eyes.
Calista sighed " but you know we are going to get into big trouble, if we get caught" she tried to talk some sense into Aurora.
Calista knew that even if she refused her, Aurora is still going to attend the banquet on her own.
" Then let's try not to get caught," she replied back mischievously.
Calista sighed, as she knew that she had been defeated in this conversation, " we will have to make a very good plan on how to get there and escape without any mishap" Calista said seriously, as they approached her house.
Aurora threw her arms around her, grinning like she'd just won a battle. "I knew you'd come around! Thanks, Cali! You're the best!"
" Sure, I will leave the plans to you" Aurora innocently said " oh I have to go now, see you tomorrow" she quickly added.
" Aurora you…." She was already gone before Calista could finish her sentence.
Calista closed her eyes as she could feel her veins popping up from anger. " Aurora" she yelled as she could not control it. Aurora turned and giggled at her before running off.
Calista went inside her house, which always feels very empty to her, in spite of the fact that her house is very big and nice.
Although it didn't scream out luxury, it was still luxurious, with soldiers stationed at the entrance of the gate and around the house.
She wondered why she had to live like a slave to them, but she never got the answer as to why.
They told her, they were grooming her to be a perfect wife for her future husband.
What a terrible way of lying. Speaking of husband, she doesn't have any intent to do that anytime soon.
She wish to be an independent woman, who can change the world in the future. She knew her parents are waiting for her to turn 18, so they can give her hand out in marriage, but she have other plans for that.
She lives in crescent moon pack and they are one of the largest and most powerful wolf packs in the world.
Although they are very big, she has a feeling of it being too small, which made her always want to explore the world.
She had heard a lot about the beautiful landscape outside the crescent moon pack. She has heard of the human world, the beautiful mermaids and the fairies, and the terrifying demons and vampires.
It was already night time, and Calista and her family were in the dining room eating dinner. She prepared mutton, clam soup, and baked beans.
Emily broke the silence, her voice dripping with false modesty. "Father, do you think the Alpha King will choose me as Luna?"
Mateo didn't even hesitate. "Of course. If it's not you, who else could it be?" He sounded so sure, it was almost amusing.
Jacob, however, leaned back in his chair with an uninterested shrug. "I heard the Alpha's daughter from the Blood Moon Pack is attending. She's got the strength, looks, and lineage to match." His tone was deliberately indifferent, but his words hit Emily squarely, causing her to scowl.
"That's enough, Jacob," Rachel said, though there was a slight edge to her voice.
Emily was quick to interject. "I don't care who attends, I will be chosen. I was born to lead."
Mateo nodded in agreement, placing a reassuring hand over hers. "You'll be perfect, Emily. All you need to do is focus on making an impression. Look your absolute best."
Mateo reached out his hands and gently grabbed Emily's hand, " I promise you, you will be the future Luna of this pack, I will make it happen" he assured her. " All you have to do is to sleep well and get dressed for the ball, you have to look your best," he added with a smile.
Calista felt a strong urge to roll her eyes but kept her gaze fixed on her plate. Her father turned his attention to her.
" Calista, make sure you help your sister with whatever she needs tomorrow for the ball, is that clear?" Mateo flatly said " yes father" and she answered in the same tone.
As the conversation continued, Calista's thoughts drifted back to the plan Aurora had roped her into. Sneaking into the banquet was a foolish risk, but if there was one thing Aurora was right about, it was that life had become far too predictable. Maybe a little rebellion was exactly what she needed.
Maybe it was time to take a chance.
