Chapter 8 - Entrance exam (4)

[Instructions]

Nathan gazed at the holographic interface in front of him with an almost neutral expression.

He had expected this kind of thing to happen really, especially since Adam himself had said that the cuff like artifacts contained instructions for them.

[Instructions:

- You cannot die. There's a feature in the artifact that prevents death. But once it's used, it's an automatic failure.

- Your objective is to kill the surrounding mutated beasts. Depending on the grade of the mutated beast, the amount of points you get increases.

- There are a five Fantasian prisoners in the area. Kill them. Killing one of them is an automatic pass for the exams.

- You are allowed to attack other examinees for their points. Defeating an examinee will give you all their accumulated points.

- You are allowed to use any method necessary to win.

- The exam is five hours. Gather as many points to be in the top hundred as soon as you can.]

Gazing at the Instructions, Nathan could only describe it in one word. Simple and straightforward.

It didn't mince it's words.

He then gazed at the screen on the artifact and saw a timer counting down.

[04:58:57]

'Seems like the exam started as soon as we landed on the ground'. Nathan thought to himself.

It added up seeing as they had been on the ground for only about two minutes or thereabout.

'Ok. How was it activated again?'. He thought as he touched the back of his neck.

'Oh right. I remember now.' He thought as his hand touched a red button like device on the back of his neck.

The implant.

Then he muttered, "Activate". The implant emitted a fine network of fibers that burst forth like a spider's web.

The fibers wrapped around his neck, shoulders, and torso, weaving together into a seamless mesh of interlocking scales.

The suit's surface shimmered with a soft, ethereal light as it adapted to his every movement.

In seconds, Nathan was encased in a suit of gleaming nano-tech armor, its surface etched with intricate circuits and pulsing with energy.

"Cool". He muttered aloud. The nano-tech suit. This was a technology created by the Terrans to fight back against Fantasia's magic.

Although the Terrans had super powers, most of said superpowers were not physical upgrades.

Not to mention, the suits also helped in controlling superpowers due to the fact that some powers were too powerful for the regular human body to utilise.

He looked at his chest where the core of the suit was. Etherium. The main power source of this world.

And also the main reason this world is at war. The unharvested Etherium, particularly at the northern regions began corrupting the landmass of Fantasia after the world's merged.

He then looked around, seeing the other students also suited up. Although some of their suits weren't as advanced as his.

They were the old models. Afterall getting the implant was already crazy expensive, then added to the fact you want the upgraded model.

That would cost some families their entire lifetime of fortunes. Only members of prominent families could afford suits like Nathan's.

Nathan then looked to see if anyone would team up, although that was very unlikely. The exam was setup in a way that it had to be every man for himself.

Because it's not set at a particular number of points to get in, but rather the top hundred points. Even if you do form a team, what's to say they wouldn't betray you to get into the top hundred.

After seeing that it would probably be pointless to try and join a team, he dashed out.

He wasn't the only one who thought so. Everyone dashed out in different directions.

'Shit'. Nathan thought as the world around him was blurring fast. He wasn't used to moving like this.

Nathan had already formulated a plan. Since those who killed a fantasian prisoner are guaranteed entrance.

Then rather than searching everywhere for beasts, he would go for the prisoners but first.

He stopped. There were sounds coming from ahead. He would need some practice on how to fight.

Hopefully, he retained this body's muscle memory or he was cooked.
