Chapter 10 - Entrance exam (6)

Shit. That was a hard fight. My first fight in this world was a real eye opener.

Mutated beasts were tye weakest monsters on the hierarchy right after regular beasts and yet I almost lost my life to one.

I then looked at the daggers I my hands. When I activated their grappling hooks, u had done so instinctively rather than a pre planned action.

Well that's at least one good news in this. I retained some of this body's muscle memory.

Unfortunately, I doubt just that amount would be enough. With my current combat ability, I was lucky to win against a mutated beast at all.

Infact if not for the fact that it did not possess intelligence at the level of a human's, I would be dead currently.

Basically I'm in no position to even try fighting against a Fantasian soldier.

But enough of that. I'm just going to have to make do with killing a few beasts and hope that's enough.

By the way. How many points is a mutated beast worth?. I decided to check the cuffs on my right wrist.

I tapped on the cuff surface to consult it but then I found out something much more helpful than I had expected.

I could check out the rankings directly from the artifact.

I guess in a way this is better. Since it would let me know just how many beasts I need to kill.

Ok. So I'm cooked basically. One hundred points and yet I'm not even in the top two hundred?

How cooked is that?. Infact I am beyond cooked at this point.

Haaa. Dammit.

On a normal basis, I'd be like fuck the academy. Infact it's better for me if I don't go. But I know better.

I know it'd only be worse. Like I said, an interplanetary war is currently ongoing between Terra and Fantasia.

Terra are doing everything in their power to win. So are Fantasia. Including mandatory recruiting of children into the military.

At sixteen, every teen in the federation is mandated to attend a military academy and serve in the Terran military for a minimum of three years before quitting and doing any other job.

So basically even if I fail the test for Nublar Academy, I'd just be sent to another academy that is worse off than Nublar and probably near the front lines to attend.

And obviously said Academy having lower facilities would not be able to train me as well as I need to be trained to survive in war.

Meaning I would just become another cannon fodder to be added to Terra's long list of cannon fodders.

And I would inevitably die. Anyway my point is, if I'm joining the military one way or another, I'd rather receive the proper training and resources to improve myself to have a better chance at surviving.

So I have no choice but to enter the top hundred. Or I can just kill one of the Fantasian prisoners.

...

Hell nah. I'd be dead in minutes with my current combat level.

Huuu. With this thought in mind I rushed in further into the exam grounds

***************

Inside the one of the buildings in the academy, there was a large viewing hall with the seats filled to the brim with different youths wearing the academy uniform.

These were current students of the academy.

At the top, there were many different booths with tinted glasses. These were the booths of the various prominent families, members of high society that came today.

In the front of the large hall, there was a large screen or rather many large screens showing the proceedings of the exam.

This was the largest building in the academy where most of their activities take place.

Nublar Academy was a place that only took in the best of the best in the Terra federation and discarded the rest.

It was the place that nurtured the best Terra had to offer, hence not just anyone could watch.

Infact only very prominent families like members of the ruling houses, generals, colonels, Class six and seven officers and the students of the academy could actually watch this.

The generals, members of the ruling families etc usually stayed in one of the tinted glass booths.

Inside one of the booths, a woman in her late thirties, with blue hair and piercing black eyes just like Natasha's crossed her leg as she sat on her seat looking at the screen in front of her.

She was Katherine Denoir. The lady of House Denoir.

On the screen, the video of a young girl with blue hair matching hers and black eyes as well could be seen.

The young girl was mowing down enemies left and right. The mutated beasts in the examination ground never really stood a chance against her.

She smiled satisfactorily at her daughter's performance.

"Are you pleased my lady?". The butler standing beside her asked.

"Yes. Although..." She trailed off as she looked at the rankings.

"While her ranking is quite good. Infact better than good. It would still be better if she could kill one of the Fantasian prisoners". Katherine added.

The butler nodded. "Yes I suppose master Arthur would prefer if she could kill one of the Fantasian soldiers, wouldn't he?"

"All in the name of family". Katherine spat out in a venomous tone.

"Haa." The butler just sighed heavily as he looked at the screen.

'May luck be with you, young lady". The butler thought as he looked at the screen.

'Cause the master won't be if you fail to make top two or kill one of the Fantasian prisoners'. The butler added inwardly.
