Chapter 7

The wedding day arrived as scheduled.

My mother carefully adorned me with precious jewelry passed down from my grandmother.

As she dressed me, her eyes were full of reluctance and concern, as if reliving the scene of parting from a past life. But this time, everything was different.

I gently turned around and held her hand. Her eyes welled up with tears as she shook her head slightly, her voice trembling as she advised, "Take care of yourself when you get there."

My marriage into a prestigious family brought honor to my father's face, with guests streaming in endlessly.

I didn't dare make any rash moves, fearing I might breach etiquette.

By the time the complex wedding ceremony ended, it was already midnight.

Burton sat down beside me, looking particularly handsome in his tailored suit.

Although this was my second marriage, my heart was pounding like a nervous teenager, my cheeks burning.

"Are you hungry?" he asked gently as he sat next to me.
