Sharon's POV—
With the help of the knights, I sent the rescued captives to a temporary place for this night only. Tomorrow, I have to do something for them.
After getting back to my castle, I cleaned up myself and then, headed towards my study room.
Entering my study room, I saw Kaerin sitting in a chair and observing my mini aquarium. Her ears twitched, probably because of the sound. Without turning back, she said, "Darling, you are here."
Ah! As expected of my heroine... she immediately knew that it was me. I said, "I believe you must have some questions for me."
She turned towards me in confusion. She asked, "What questions?"
"I made you my personal knight without much thinking. Aren't you worried that I may scam you?"
Kaerin smiled at me. She replied, "I am not worried at all."
"Why? You are a demi-human. We, humans always hurt your kind. You must have some doubts about me."
"Well, I don't doubt you. You are the one, who saved me. If you want something from me, I won't resist."
Wow... she really trusts me too much. In the novel, she became distrustful of humans after being imprisoned by humans for a long time. Although she joined the protagonist due to his strength, she finally opened up to the protagonist after a long time. I suppose it's due to her different behaviour when compared to the novel world.
"Fine. But remember that you won't be joining the imperial knights. Instead, you would be my personal knight. Understood?"
"Ok, darling~"
I blushed from her repetitive use of 'darling.' It's not like I can stop her. I was the one who allowed her to call me that.
Seeing my reaction, her smile even increased more. She really knows what she is doing.
"Stop teasing me! Go and sleep in your room."
"Can't I stay with you?" pouted Kaerin. If she thinks her pouting will make me rethink my decision then, she needs a reality check.
"Go!" Seeing me adamant on my decision. She got up from her chair morosely and proceeded towards the door. Just before going out of the room, she gave me last one look and left the room.
Sighing, I sat on my chair and covered my face with my hands. Suddenly, I heard a clicking sound. I removed my hands from my face and looked up to see who the newcomer was.
It was Maria. Her behaviour today was a bit weird but still within my expectations. She came stood in front of me. She bowed her head and said, "I greet the light of our empire. I greet our benevolent leader. I greet you... Your Majesty."
"Lift your head up," Maria lifted her head up, "I am surprised that you came at this late hour. It almost 3 am. Go and sleep."
"I will, Your Majesty... but this humble servant of yours want to ask a question to you."
I frowned at her. I said, "Go on. Ask me."
"Why did you attack Nightinshade? How did you know about its existence?"
I kind of expected that she would ask me that question. It's not like I can say the truth. I don't what will happen if I say this— 'This world is a creation of mine. I created it. I am an author.' Either she will think me as a lunatic or, she will regard as an impostor. I don't want any of the outcomes.
I replied, "I have my sources. Tell me, why do you want this answer from me? I am the emperor. Do I need to justify you?" Maria lowered her head immediately, "I am not surprised that you asked me this question. You did have a great deal of experience with that organisation, right?"
Hearing my words, Maria jerked her head upwards. She was looking at me in horror. I smirked at her. It's best for my interest if I just confront her.
