Sharon's POV—
The sun has already set. Kaerin was training along with the imperial knights. Even if I haven't seen them fighting, it was clear that Kaerin was dominating them. To be precise, it would be a one-way fight. If they can't even defeat me then, it was next to impossible for them to defeat her, who was the greatest knight in this entire continent.
Spotting me, they all greeted me. While everyone greeted me except Kaerin. Instead, she smiled at me and greeted, "Darling~"
As soon as that word left her mouth, everyone became silent. Even a funeral is livelier than this. I narrowed my eyes at her and sighed heavily. Clearly, I was a fool to expect to keep her promise. A part of me wanted to scold her, yet I refrained. Now's not the time to reprimand her.
I said, "Kaerin, follow me. And you all may rest now. Continue your training in the morning."
I could see everyone boring holes in her skull with just their looks. It's evident that they don't like her addressing me as 'darling.' On top of that, they are clearly discriminating against her. Humans neither like demi-humans, nor demi-humans like humans. It's kind of a mutual hatred. Although, I can understand their behaviour. Being completely loyal to me meant they couldn't disrespect Kaerin due to her status. Almost all of them are worried about me. They don't want Kaerin, a demi-human, much less the princess of the fallen Demihripe kingdom. Even Leon requested me not to make her my personal knight.
Entering the imperial garden, I ordered all the servants to leave us alone. The servants immediately left the garden.
Raising the book, I asked, "Why did you give me this book?"
Kaerin replied, "I wanted to clear some misunderstandings between us."
"What misunderstandings?" I was confused by her words. I don't think there is any type of misunderstanding between us.
"My motives and my past actions. I believe my actions might have been misunderstood by you," She replied.
Is she still going on about that? It's fine. I have already read that book. So, there is no need to clear any misunderstanding.
"I have read that book."
"Is that so? I am really glad you did. It makes things easy between us."
"Where did you find this book?"
"I had this book with me. You know, there is no copy of this book. It's the last one."
Last one? Where did she find it? I asked, "Where did you find this?" Although, I remember that she told me that she found it in my library. But I clearly know it's a lie. I have the memories of the OG Sharon. She had never seen this book in her library.
"In your library."
"You are lying. I have never seen this book in my library," I sneered at her. If she believes that she can escape me by lying then, she needs a reality check.
She observed me for few seconds. Seeing me adamant, she finally relented.
"I found this book when I was held captive by that bastard organisation. I stole from someone."
She stole it? From who? This piece of information is really important for me. I need to know from she had stolen it.
"Who? From who you had stolen?"
"I don't know. The only thing that I had heard from them was, that the book in your hands 'is the last remaining' copy."
All my hopes crashed down in an instant. I looked directly in her eyes to find any sort of deception... but there was no sign of it. It seems that she is not lying. Yet, this poses a problem. If this book is the last of its kind, then it's good. But if not, I don't even want to think about the consequences.
"Did you give this book to help me?" I asked her.
"It's about your family. So, it belongs to me. I just returned it. Did this book help you?" I nodded, "I am glad that it helped you. You must be really scared whenever your heat triggers."
I averted my eyes and nodded stiffly. It's not me who suffered... it was my predecessor. Suddenly, my head started spinning. Kaerin grabbed me and helped me stabilize. She touched my forehead and exclaimed, "Your forehead is burning!"
At that moment, it clicked. Wasn't it the same that OG experienced during that time of the month? With my newly acquired knowledge, I can say... I am in heat.
