In the midst of despair, this glimmer of hope seemed incredibly precious.
I tried to reason with Harvey:
"I'm not lying."
"Sean was kicking me."
"If you don't believe me, feel my belly."
Harvey looked at me coldly:
"You really are trying to use the baby to lie."
"Isabella, as always, you're a liar."
He dragged me mercilessly towards the operating room.
Nearby nurses hurried over and said to Harvey Riverton:
"Mr. Blaine, your wife is receiving special care as per Miss Grace's instructions."
"Your current actions are not appropriate."
Suddenly, a nurse shouted:
"Mr. Blaine, Isabella isn't lying."
"Grace was really in the same car accident as her."
"Miss Grace went into premature labor and is now being examined in the maternity center next door."
After the nurse finished speaking, Lydia's face turned grim.
However, a flash of feigned sincerity flickered in her eyes. She approached me with reddened eyes and furrowed brows:
"Isabella, I never thought you would stoop so low as to bribe Blaine's intern to play along with your act."
"No wonder you got the VIP suite."
Harvey was furious.
"Bribing medical staff is a serious offense."
"Isabella, if you keep lying, this won't be just a simple pregnancy check-up anymore."
He finished speaking and moved to grab me.
Just then, the intern suddenly appeared at the doorway, his face pale:
"Mr. Blaine, she's not lying."
"Isabella is five months pregnant with your child."
"You're the father of the baby, yet you want to operate on her."
"Are you trying to kill her?"
However, Harvey completely ignored the intern's pleas.
With a "bang", the operating room door slammed shut.
Through the crack in the door, I heard the intern's voice, filled with urgency:
"He's gone mad."
"We need to notify the hospital director immediately!"
"And call Miss Grace, tell her Blaine is forcing Isabella into a C-section."
...
Lydia leaned against the operating table.
A smug smile played at the corners of her mouth. Harvey, in an attempt to appease her, didn't even give me anesthesia.
He grabbed the scalpel and pressed it against my belly:
"Isabella, you brought this upon yourself."
"If you hadn't deliberately crashed your car into Lydia and spread lies everywhere,"
"Lydia wouldn't have been heartbroken enough to agree to the family's arranged marriage."
"She wouldn't have been forcibly given abortion pills by those despicable people right before the wedding!"
"She lost her baby, and it's all because of you!"
I was so terrified, tears streaming down my face.
Sweat had already soaked through my hospital gown.
I begged Harvey:
"Don't touch my belly."
"The baby was just kicking me."
"He... he's crying for help."
I cried while pleading with him to spare me.
"I'll do anything if you're willing to divorce me!"
"I swear, I'll stay far away from you and Lydia."
"I'll never appear again!"
But my pleas seemed to have no effect on him.
Harvey looked at me coldly, the scalpel hovering above my belly.
