Chapter 7

"You'll come to our wedding next month, right? After all, we're colleagues now, and we were high school classmates too."

His eyes glinted with a challenging look, as if he thought this would humiliate me.

But I couldn't remember anything anymore. His actions and words couldn't get to me now. His little scheme was bound to fail.

"I'm not going."

I didn't reach out to take the invitation, stepping around him instead.

"I'm not about to give money to people I don't know."

"Quinn, keep pretending. Let's see how long you can keep this act up!"

Jolene's mocking voice rang out behind me.

I didn't look back, pulling Alex along as we quickly walked into the office. It was precisely this action that made them think I was feeling guilty.

"Jolene, what if he's still not over you and tries to ruin our wedding?"

"Don't worry, you're the only one in my heart. If he causes trouble, don't make me cut ties with him for real."

Alex looked at me worriedly, his eyes full of concern.
