"From now on, don't appear in front of us anymore. I want to give Garrison complete security and don't want any misunderstandings in our relationship because of you."
I took off the frayed red string bracelet from my wrist and held it out to her.
"Do you remember this? Back then, when I was always sick and couldn't get better, you went to the temple specially to get this bracelet for me."
Jolene glanced at it, her eyes full of impatience.
"I don't remember. Only you would treasure such a cheap thing."
With that, she threw the bracelet straight into the ocean.
"Out of sight, out of mind."
She wasn't just talking about the bracelet, but about me as a person and my feelings for her.
Suddenly, the cruise ship began to rock violently. Jolene immediately wrapped one arm tightly around Garrison beside her, while her other hand gripped the railing.
I rolled off the lounge chair with the movement, falling to the ground and getting my leg pinned under a sliding dining table, unable to move.
Instinctively, I called out Jolene's name.
"Jolene, come help me quick, I can't move my leg!"
She looked hesitant, not moving but continuing to protect Garrison in her arms.
Then, a piece of debris came flying at me from above. In the midst of intense pain, I lost consciousness.Half a month had passed when I finally regained consciousness. The doctor said I had suffered severe head trauma, which could have potentially left me paralyzed or in a vegetative state.
Luckily, I survived. Apart from a long scar on my head, I only lost some of my memories due to amnesia.
But I couldn't tell exactly what I had forgotten.
The doctor explained that memory recovery varies from person to person. Some regain their memories within days, while others never fully recover.
Alec came to visit me in the hospital, bringing well-wishes from his colleagues. He explained that the accident was caused by the cruise ship hitting a reef, and fortunately, no one had died in the incident.
He sat by my bedside, carefully peeling an apple for me, and hesitantly began to speak.
"Quint, Jolene, and Garrison have already been punished. When they reviewed the security footage, they saw that Jolene, as a safety officer, had the responsibility to protect you. She had the opportunity to save you, but she did nothing."
I stopped fiddling with my phone and searched my mind carefully for these two names.
It seemed that all memories of them had vanished. I had absolutely no recollection of these people.
Well, I guess if they were forgotten, they must not have been important people in my life.
"Alec, I don't remember the two people you mentioned. Who are they?"Alec's hand paused while peeling the apple, a flicker of sympathy crossing his eyes. He lowered his head and remained silent for a moment before explaining to me.
Jolene was my ex-girlfriend, and Garrison was Jolene's first love. They're back together now.
And on the day of my accident, they had just gotten engaged.
It seems they're bad luck for me. I should stay far away from them.
On the day I was discharged, besides Alec, my childhood friend Meadow was there too.
Meadow placed a yellow wig on my bald head.
"Now you can't say you're ugly anymore," she said.
I opened my phone's camera and looked at myself in the mirror. Although the hairstyle Meadow chose was a bit ugly, it was passable.
After being discharged, I returned to the company with Alec. At the entrance, we encountered a couple holding hands.
Alec whispered in my ear, telling me that they were Jolene and Garrison.
