Chapter 130: The Five Elements Seal
What Ino was about to do next involved one of Konoha's secrets. Whether for public or private reasons, she couldn't let Karin see it.
However, the girl had clearly been worried about her earlier, and Ino couldn't be too heartless.
She patted Karin on the shoulder and pointed in a direction. "Go up the stairs from here. The second room on the left is my study. On the fifth bookshelf, there are two ninjutsu scrolls. You can choose one to learn."
Karin wasn't particularly interested in learning ninjutsu. She asked, "If I learn ninjutsu, will I become useful to you?"
What does you learning something have to do with me? I just want to get you out of the way!
Ino was increasingly convinced that every single one of these ninja had something wrong with them.
She nodded firmly. "Definitely."
"Okay!"
Karin, being a classic example of someone who thrived on being needed, was thrilled and ran upstairs to study.
Ino turned her attention to Naruto.
The situation was troublesome but not life-threatening.
Sakura asked anxiously, "Shouldn't we go find Kakashi-sensei?"
Sasuke countered, "What if that guy from earlier comes after us again? I don't think Kakashi can beat him."
It was clear that Sasuke's words carried a lot of weight with Sakura. She instinctively wanted to agree, but seeing Naruto lying there like a corpse, she couldn't bear to leave him.
Ino had the same concerns.
The chameleon summon, Shukaku, had the best invisibility when it wasn't moving it could arguably be called the best in the world. But once it moved, even an experienced jōnin would notice something was off.
Taking Naruto all the way to Kakashi now was too risky, and besides, Kakashi probably couldn't solve this problem anyway.
Ino had a plan, and she had an idea.
Opportunities to access the Nine-Tails' chakra were rare, and this was a good chance.
Saving Naruto couldn't be done inside the Ghost Castle. If the Nine-Tails' chakra erupted, the old chameleon, already hanging on by a thread, wouldn't be able to handle it.
They had to go outside.
Ino used her sensory abilities to check and found that Orochimaru was getting farther and farther away. Konoha's reinforcements were entering the Forest of Death from three directions. She estimated that the crisis had been resolved.
"Naruto's clearly being controlled by a seal. If we go outside, I should be able to undo it."
The others knew that Ino's ninjutsu repertoire was quite diverse, so they weren't surprised. They all left the Ghost Castle.
Ino told Karin to stay inside and continue studying, then the group left the castle and found a very hidden cave.
Ino coughed. "Ahem, let me give it a try. You guys hold him down."
After becoming Tsunade's apprentice, the Third Hokage had privately given her an A-rank sealing scroll: the famous Five Elements Seal.
Previously, only the Third Hokage, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya knew this sealing technique. Tsunade didn't.
Ino's apprenticeship had stirred some old memories in the old man, and he had given her the scroll to learn the Five Elements Seal, perhaps with the intention of having her pass it on to Tsunade.
Naruto's Naruto Two Thousand Combo was rated as an A-rank ninjutsu, but the difficulty lay in the Shadow Clone Technique. Once you mastered the Shadow Clone Technique, the rest of the basic taijutsu involved could hardly be considered A-rank it was more like D-rank at best.
The Five Elements Seal was rated as an A-rank sealing technique, and its difficulty lay in the five elements. To use this sealing technique, one had to possess all five chakra natures.
The Third Hokage and Orochimaru both had fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water chakra natures, so they could use the Five Elements Seal without issue. Jiraiya was missing the lightning nature, so he shouldn't have been able to use it.
But Jiraiya's student and his student's wife were exceptional. Relying on the Uzumaki clan's sealing techniques and Minato's ninjutsu talent, they modified the Five Elements Seal. Now, the technique could use yin and yang attributes to replace missing chakra natures.
Jiraiya learned this modified version of the Five Elements Seal, and the Fourth Hokage later handed the technique over to the village. Now, the Third Hokage had passed it on to Ino.
Ino was missing fire and lightning chakra natures, but she could temporarily substitute them with yin and yang attributes. Plus, she was reversing the seal to undo it, which was easier than when Orochimaru had placed the seal on Naruto.
She focused her mind, and water, earth, and wind chakra emerged from her fingers one by one. Then, she used yang attribute to replace fire and yin attribute to replace lightning.
"When I undo the seal, there'll be a chakra explosion. Hold him down! Don't move, no matter what!" she shouted.
Shikamaru, Choji, and Sasuke pinned down the unconscious Naruto.
Choji was the most forceful, his chubby face contorting from the effort.
Ino's fingers formed a claw shape, and she pressed them against the new seal on Naruto's stomach, then reversed the technique.
"Five Elements Unseal!"
With a loud bang, the chakra inside Naruto's body sent everyone flying.
Sasuke's head hit the cave wall, leaving him bleeding. He ignored his injury and looked at Naruto.
"Is that idiot okay?"
When Ino didn't respond, he asked again twice.
This is my first time doing this. How should I know if he's okay? That was a seal placed by Orochimaru!
Ino felt a little frustrated. She was so amazing, but her teammates had no idea. Life was truly lonely.
After a while, Naruto still showed no signs of waking up. Ino checked and found that the Five Elements Seal interfering with the Four Symbols Seal had been removed. The reason he wasn't waking up was likely due to some other issue caused by the seal's interference.
Since she had started saving him, she might as well finish the job. Plus, Ino wanted to see what the Nine-Tails looked like and how much chakra it had, considering it had been "evenly" distributed by the Sage of Six Paths.
"I'll wake him up. You guys protect me," she said.
Shikamaru and Choji immediately understood and stood guard beside her.
Ino quickly formed hand seals and aimed at Naruto. "Mind Body Switch Technique!"
Her consciousness, wrapped in chakra, rushed into Naruto's inner world. Normally, at this point, she would have pushed the original consciousness aside and taken over, but this time, the technique only half succeeded. She couldn't find Naruto's mental core at all.
"Where is he?"
The dark corridor was filled with puddles of water, and the entire space felt cold and damp.
All this water on the ground can't be the Nine-Tails' pee, and it has nothing to do with the Four Symbols Seal being located near Naruto's bladder.
Even with her high-level yin release and strong mental energy, the Nine-Tails' scattered mental energy outside the seal was overwhelming. It was too violent. Naruto's ability to remain optimistic despite this was truly remarkable.
Ino didn't see Minato's chakra, Kushina's chakra, or Asura's chakra here. She guessed the big shots probably thought this small issue wasn't worth their attention, so they didn't show up.
"Naruto?"
"Naruto?"
"Uzumaki Naruto?"
She called out for a while, but the only response was the sound of dripping water. There was no sign of anyone.
