Chapter 134: Temari's Wrath
The next match was Tenten versus Temari.
To be fair, Tenten was calm-minded, experienced, and, most importantly, she had the heart of a strong warrior. Compared to Sakura from the original timeline, who often cowered in fear, Tenten was undoubtedly one of the stronger kunoichi.
As soon as the referee, Gekko Hayate, shouted "Begin!"
Tenten launched a fierce assault.
Shuriken, kunai, senbon, sickles, chain hammers various ninja tools were summoned from scrolls and hurled toward Temari with precision. Within a five-meter radius centered on Temari, the barrage of weapons rained down like a storm.
The Third Hokage had a group-attack A-rank ninjutsu called the Shadow Clone Shuriken Technique. This technique required eight hand seals and allowed the user to throw a massive shuriken that would multiply into thousands of smaller shuriken mid-flight, unleashing a torrential downpour of attacks.
The Third Hokage had taught this technique to many, including the old man Kosuke, the Fourth Hokage, Orochimaru, and even Konohamaru. Its main advantage was that it was cost-effective, cost-effective, and cost-effective!
Tenten didn't need to learn something like the Shadow Clone Shuriken Technique. An A-rank ninjutsu like that was too difficult for her she lacked the chakra reserves, stamina, and hand seal proficiency. But she had money!
Why bother with shadow clones for shuriken? Just throw money at the problem!
Aside from being a bit expensive, her Twin Rising Dragons technique could achieve effects comparable to the Shadow Clone Shuriken Technique.
Tenten opened with a relentless assault, but Temari swung her fan with flawless precision, deflecting every attack. Ino glanced at Neji Hyuga, who was standing nearby. The Hyuga prodigy's expression was complicated, and from an outsider's perspective, Ino guessed it probably carried the sentiment of, "Rich lady, I don't want to work hard anymore."
Ino and Tenten were on good terms, and she could see that Tenten's relentless attacks were draining her stamina, chakra, and throwing speed rapidly. Meanwhile, Temari was clearly charging up for a big move. Wanting to help, Ino decided to stir the pot.
She turned to Shikamaru, who was standing nearby, and casually struck up a conversation.
"Hey, who do you think will win?"
Shikamaru might not have been the strongest, but after spending so much time with Ino, his observational skills had sharpened considerably.
Without thinking too deeply, he lazily replied, "Tenten's attacks aren't sustainable. If I had to guess, the Sand Village's strongwoman will win."
As soon as the word "strongwoman" left his mouth, he knew he was in trouble.
Over the past couple of days, Ino had been constantly complaining about the Sand Village trio calling one a strongwoman and the other a panda-eyed guy. Much like how Sasuke always called Naruto a loser, it was common for kids their age to give each other nicknames. Shikamaru hadn't thought much of it, but now that he'd accidentally blurted it out, he realized his mistake.
"Ahhh!" Temari roared in fury. With a powerful swing of her fan, she sent Tenten flying nearly eight meters away. Instead of continuing her attack, she turned her furious gaze toward Shikamaru and Ino, her eyes blazing like a wolf's. Ino, ever the master of deflecting blame, subtly pointed at Shikamaru, as if to say, "It wasn't me who called you that it was this rich kid over here. If you've got a problem, take it up with him." Shikamaru, meanwhile, looked panicked, his hands trembling as he gripped the railing.
Temari clenched her teeth, her face pale with rage. Strongwoman? Was that even a word used to describe a woman? Would he take responsibility if she couldn't get married in the future because of this?
She completely forgot about her opponent, Tenten, and glared daggers at Shikamaru, as if ready to charge over and settle the score right then and there.
On the other side of the arena, Kankuro was nearly losing his mind. His younger brother was unreliable, and now his older sister was acting out too. He was having a tough time!
Seeing that Temari's anger was about to boil over, he quickly signaled her: "Shh! Shh shh!"
When Temari glanced back at him, he shook his head vigorously, trying to convey, "Don't do anything rash! We're planning to destroy Konoha, but that's not for another month! If you act out now, our army hasn't even left home yet!" Not only did he shake his head, but he even brought out his puppet and made it shake its head too, nearly breaking its neck in the process. This finally managed to temporarily suppress Temari's rage.
Tenten regrouped and fought another thirty rounds with Temari, but in the end, she was no match for the Sand Village's princess. Temari's wind-style techniques were simply too effective against her, and Temari's strength was indeed formidable.
"Go rest, go rest. Don't be angry, please don't be angry..." Kankuro tried to calm his older sister. If it were up to Temari's usual temper, she would have already started swinging her fan wildly in all directions. But now, to refute Shikamaru's so-called "strongwoman" insult, she forced herself to act like a gentle girl who couldn't even open a bottle cap. It was a struggle.
Shikamaru held his head in his hands, feeling utterly vexed. Ino, on the other hand, was delighted to have successfully shifted the blame.
The next match was Shikamaru versus Kin. Shikamaru won easily.
After that, it was Naruto versus Choji.
Choji fought hard. In addition to his Human Boulder technique, he had also mastered a partial Multi-Size Technique. He enlarged his right hand, grabbed Naruto, and slammed him into the ground over a dozen times. Unfortunately, he was no match for Naruto, the protagonist with plot armor, and Naruto emerged victorious.
The eighth match was Ino versus Neji Hyuga.
"Cheer for me, everyone!" Ino, who had a much better reputation than the cold-faced Neji, waved to her friends and stepped into the arena first.
The two stood five meters apart.
The two geniuses from the Konoha Ninja Academy locked eyes, each seeing the determination to win in the other's gaze.
"I've heard your ninjutsu is strong, but you're not good at close combat. Do you need to increase the distance?" Neji said calmly.
"Funny. You're a genius, I'll give you that, but you can't beat me," Ino replied confidently, not believing that the current Neji could pose much of a threat to her.
Gekko Hayate, the referee, raised his right hand and then swung it down forcefully. "Begin!"
Neji was fast. With a quick step, his left hand forward and his right hand back, his body moved like a swimming dragon. He opened with the Hyuga clan's secret technique Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Palms.
His feet moved in a circular pattern, his movements elusive. In an instant, he closed the five-meter gap, his left palm striking toward Ino's right flank.
This kind of stand-and-fight duel was unfair to Ino. If the distance had been thirty meters, she could have easily dominated Neji. But at five meters, things were more complicated.
Her speed wasn't inferior to Neji's, but her taijutsu and strength were noticeably lacking. She quickly retreated, but mid-air and unable to form hand seals, she hurled three kunai in a triangular formation.
Neji raised his elbow and deflected the kunai with ease. He took two rapid steps forward, then thrust his right palm straight toward Ino's center!
Ino pushed off the ground with her foot, creating distance again. She reversed her grip on the kunai and slashed at Neji's palm.
Neji's arm twisted like a snake, bending at an angle to counter her wrist. Contrary to Neji's expectations, Ino, who was rumored to be weak in taijutsu, was far more agile than he had anticipated. Using her right leg as a pivot, she kicked fiercely at Neji's ribs with her left leg.
