CHAPTER SEVEN

The sleek black SUV cruised through the city streets, its tinted windows shielding its occupants from prying eyes. Elisa sat stiffly in the backseat, fingers twisting in her lap, while Tilly sat beside her, unusually quiet. Jason drove, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror every so often, watching to see if they were being followed. Cael sat beside him in the passenger seat, his face closed off and eyes alert.

The tension was suffocating. Elisa could still feel the sting of adrenaline in her veins from the warehouse attack. Now, barely a day later, they were being called in for questioning. The past 2 days seem like a year.

"I don't understand why they need me," she muttered, breaking the silence.
