Alice shuddered as she listened.
"Alice? Why are you asking about this?" Bella, on the other end of the line, sounded puzzled.
"It's nothing," Alice forced herself to speak steadily. "Just curious..."
"When will you be back? Auntie is making a special dinner for you."
"Later. I'll call you when I'm on my way."
"Okay, Auntie will be waiting for you."
After hanging up, Alice collapsed onto the toilet seat, her face drained of color.
She had thought Adam was just another wealthy man, but she had no idea he had such power in Star City!
No, even so, she had to escape.
As long as she could get out of the country, Adam would never find her.
She would have her passport sent to the airport by her aunt, and once she left the Imperial Garden, she could head to Lan Yue Bay...
But how could she leave?A few days later, at dinner time, Alice sat at the table and glanced at the food in front of her.
She took a bite of rice and then forced herself to pick up her chopsticks and reach for the vegetable dish. She held it close to her nose and the faint smell of seafood made her tremble with fear. Her hand shook as she tried to eat, but she forced herself to chew slowly and swallow.
The maid standing nearby watched in surprise as Alice ate the seafood-laced vegetables. She thought to herself, "She can't keep this up!"
She quickly turned and went to find Daniel. "Sir, Miss Baker is eating her vegetables!"
Daniel looked at the maid with a serious expression before waving her off to watch over the dining room. He then picked up his phone and dialed a number. "Mr. Davis, Miss Baker has eaten the food."
In the top floor office of the skyscraper, Adam sat in his black chair with his phone pressed against his ear, his sharp black eyes like that of a hawk. "Has there been a reaction?"
"Well..." Daniel was about to answer when he heard a loud crash from the dining room and quickly rushed over.
A bowl had shattered on the ground, and the rice and vegetables were scattered all over. Alice was kneeling on the ground, coughing uncontrollably. Red rashes were appearing on her bare arms at a visible rate.
"Mr. Davis, there's a reaction," Daniel quickly reported over the phone.
Adam sneered. "Take her to the hospital."
"Yes, sir."
Alice was helped into a car, weakly leaning against the window as she watched the scenery outside rapidly retreat. Despite the pain, her clear eyes shone with a glimmer of hope.
Less than ten minutes later, the red rashes had spread to Alice's neck and face, not to mention the state of her body under her clothes.
But that was just the beginning. Alice's breathing became labored, as if someone was choking her neck. Her beautiful eyebrows furrowed in discomfort, and her body spasmed in the seat.
She was on the brink of death. But she couldn't die. She had three young and adorable children who needed their mother.
Before they even arrived at the hospital, Alice went into shock and was rushed directly to the emergency room. Abigail was taken aback when she saw Alice - she had been practicing medicine for years, but had never seen such a severe allergic reaction. If they had arrived any later, Alice might not have survived.
As Adam's personal doctor, Dr. Song immediately began treating Alice. The hospital was silent and eerie in the middle of the night, with a creepy feeling in the air that made the skin crawl.
The door to the VIP ward silently opened, and a dark figure approached the bed, looming over Alice's body. The oxygen mask had been removed from Alice's pale face, but her breathing was steady. However, there were still faint red marks on her face.
Adam's figure was imposing, with his hands resting on either side of Alice's body like a dangerous animal. "How does it feel?" he asked in a low, cold voice.
Alice, with her eyes closed and long, curled eyelashes, did not respond. "It's a shame I didn't get to see you in pain, but there's always next time," he said in a ghostly voice.
Alice gradually regained consciousness, turning her head to look out the sunlit window. It was already morning. Looking around the room and smelling the strong scent of medicine in the air, she knew where she was.
She breathed a sigh of relief, glad to have left Lan Yue Bay. Alice sat up and touched the red marks on her face.
There was a knock on the door and Abigail walked in. Seeing that the person was already awake, she said, "It's alright. The rash onyour body will disappear completely in a couple of days with the medicine."
Alice looked at her in a daze.
"I am the director of this hospital and also Mr. Davis's personal doctor, Abigail."
Alice was shocked. Even the personal doctor was at the director level...
Abigail was curious about Alice. This was the first time Adam had brought a girl to her, and Daniel from the Imperial Garden had followed. It made her feel that this girl was extraordinary.
Last night, she couldn't see the girl's advantages under the allergy, but now that the swelling had gone down, all her features were revealed. She was clean and beautiful, like a naturally transparent porcelain.
Standing next to Adam, this beautiful girl, who was as beautiful as a young girl, easily made people think of the relationship between men and women.
"Rest well. If you need anything, just ring the bell and I'll come over."
"Thank you.""You're welcome."
After Abigail left and closed the door, Alice looked thoughtful.
Adam's personal doctor was Adam's person. She would never come to see her.
Alice hoped even more that Adam would never appear again.
That way, her chances of escape would be even higher!
She would be willing to eat seafood that terrified her just to give herself a chance to escape.
Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to escape from the tightly guarded Imperial Garden even if she had wings.
Shortly after lunch, a nurse came to help Alice with her IV drip. The procedure lasted for an hour and a half before the nurse returned. Alice noticed the nurse's head was lowered and her eyes flashed with a cold light. Ten minutes later, a nurse wearing a mask and uniform emerged from the room, holding a removed tube and an empty medicine bottle. She threw them into a medical waste bin and walked towards the elevator, not stopping at the nurse's station. Alice knew this was not the same nurse as before.
Fully geared up, Alice entered the elevator. As the doors were about to close, a hand suddenly stopped them. She was terrified. "Sorry," said a doctor from another department who had just entered. Alice didn't say a word and kept her head down. When the elevator reached the third floor, she pressed the button and got off, taking the emergency stairs down. She took off her nurse uniform as she walked and headed straight for the exit.
She hailed a taxi and rushed to the airport, taking out her phone from her bra and calling her aunt Bella. "Auntie, have you arrived at the airport?" she asked. "Yes, where are you?" Bella replied. "I'm on my way! Wait for me!" Alice hung up and urged the driver, "I'm sorry, can you drive faster? I'm in a hurry."
She had planned everything in advance and had asked her aunt to buy the plane tickets and wait for her at the airport.
