Actually, Alec didn't have much to take with him.

Because I only allowed him to take his personal belongings.

The expensive gaming computer in the study was a 25th birthday gift from me, so he had no right to take it.

The closets full of high-end designer clothes were things I'd bought for him over time, so he had no right to those either.

All in all, he couldn't even fill a single suitcase.

It just goes to show that in this relationship, I clearly had the upper hand when it came to material things.

As Alec walked out with his nearly empty suitcase, I was idly scrolling through my phone.

He lingered, not leaving.

Dawdling in the living room.

He looked like he was hoping I'd ask him to stay.

After about fifteen minutes, seeing that I hadn't said a word, he grew bolder and sat down right next to me.

The first thing he said was, "I think this cooling-off period for divorce might actually be useful."

I glanced up, raising an eyebrow at him. "What do you mean?"
