For a moment, there was a silent showdown between teacher and student, the air crackling with tension.
But now the tension dissipated as the professor decided to throw a bone too.
Then, Draken smirked, as if accepting the challenge, before turning to head to his seat.
Ariadne? Oh, she flipped her hair dramatically and strutted after him, looking entirely too pleased with herself—like she had just won the argument.
I watched as Draken walked past me, our eyes meeting for a split second.
Icy blue.
Unmistakable.
So it was him.
I had a name now.
Draken.
He's with Ariadne?
And why am I surprised. The two deserve each other like match made in heav- hell if I'm being honest.
But he looks so- I don't know, he seems the opposite of the kinda guy who'd be with a blondie -in your face- bombshell like Ariadne.
She seems so fake, I can bet she's had not one but plenty work done to her face and body; whereas he- I can't believe I'm saying this- he's a raw, one of a kind aesthetics.
Even if they might not have anything in common, at least they would both have Me in common. The two decided to hate me and be the bane of my existence in first glance.
Both with rotten personalities.
He passed by without a word, heading straight for the back—right next to Ariadne.
I turned to Aria, lowering my voice. "Wait— they're together?"
Aria shrugged. "They were in junior high. Then, out of nowhere—bam!—they broke up. No drama, no tears, nothing. It was weird."
I frowned. "That is weird. They seem so tight now. No post-breakup angst?"
She nodded. "Nope. Not even a brooding phase— and let's be honest, Draken looks like someone who'd be great at brooding."
She wasn't wrong.
"Of course-" I agreed readily. "He's brooding even when he's with her."
Then, before she could continue—
"Ladies in the front." Mr. Aspen called, making my spine stiffen.
Oh, great.
I turned slowly, expecting a reprimand—
"Can I ask what is so much more important that you'd rather discuss that then what will be asked of you in your finals- which you have to pass in order to get your degree, may I remind you in case either of you have forgotten."
Aria and I both looked down to our notebooks, avoiding all the gazes from around the room burning into our heads. Some even snickered.
Where are we, in elementary school?
"Ladies, I expect an answer when I ask a question." he was thinned lipped staring down at us from his platform in this gigantic room.
Aria opened her mouth however I beat her to it, "Umm-" clearing my throat, "Hi, Mr. Aspen. I have joined your class from today and obviously have missed a few class worth of substance. I was just asking for some help from Aria here."
He won't make a new girl suffer, right?
"Ah, so you must be-" his pause was meant for me to fill it in.
But before I could even open my mouth, someone else beat me to it.
"This is Rose, ladies and gentle men. Rose Gabrielle," A smooth voice rang from the back. But there was something mocking hidden in that voice.
