Chapter 65: Farewell to Xingluo

Chapter 65: Farewell to Xingluo

When he first used the Shì Shén Qiāng (Divine Slayer Spear), Dai Yao had been utterly exhausted, barely managing to crawl back to his room and lie in bed for several days. This time, after using it, he felt much better. He was just physically drained, without too many side effects.

"Being alive feels so good," Dai Yao said, breathing heavily, even feeling the air was sweet.

Seeing the dark, shiny bone, he thought of a word but wasn't entirely sure: "Soul Bone?"

He picked up the Soul Bone and examined it in his hand. It was a piece of the left arm bone, emitting a cool, refreshing aura. As he sensed the soul power within, Dai Yao confirmed it was indeed a Soul Bone.

"It seems the person who tried to kill me used a Soul Bone technique for their first attack," Dai Yao thought. He recalled how Zhu Tao's attack from the beam earlier hadn't come with a soul ring glow, and the strike was vicious and sneaky. This Soul Bone skill must have been an assassination-type technique.

A huge surge of soul power caused the trees around the area to sway violently. Dai Yao realized the Night Watchers were on their way.

With no time to lose, he quickly threw the Soul Bone into the lake and waited for their arrival.

Ten breaths later, a figure appeared inside the house.

It was a person in a grey robe, their body completely concealed by the robe, with no skin visible. Along with the figure came a massive wave of soul power. The entire cabin trembled, its windows and doors groaning under the pressure, and the cabin seemed on the verge of collapsing!

As soon as the grey-robed figure entered, Dai Yao was immediately overwhelmed by the overwhelming soul power, his body pinned to the ground, unable to move.

It wasn't until the grey-robed person realized the situation that they withdrew their soul power.

Without speaking, the grey-robed figure waited until Dai Yao stood up, then inspected him carefully before shifting their gaze to search around the cabin.

Dai Yao watched as the grey-robed figure searched the house, his heart tense with anxiety. If the figure discovered that he had just been assassinated, an investigation would surely follow—about how he survived and where the assassin was. He wouldn't be able to explain! The assassin had already turned to ashes, and the secret of his Dual Wielding Martial Souls must never be exposed.

"Sir Night Watcher, may I ask what brings you here tonight?" Dai Yao politely offered a cup of tea to the grey-robed figure.

However, the grey-robed figure ignored him and instead floated into the air, beginning to search the ceiling.

After circling once, they paused and hovered by the beam, reaching out a pale hand to touch it.

Dai Yao's spine went cold. The beam was the very place the assassin had been earlier. Struggling to keep his anxiety in check, Dai Yao asked nonchalantly, "Sir Night Watcher, is there something on the beam?"

The grey-robed person remained silent and flew out of the cabin. A vast mental energy surged from them, enveloping the entire area.

When the mental energy touched the lake, Dai Yao clearly heard the grey-robed person utter, "Huh?"

The grey-robed figure halted mid-air, casting a deep look at Dai Yao, before their overwhelming soul power exploded, and they swiftly flew off into the distance.

"How strange," Dai Yao mused, puzzled by the grey-robed figure's actions. It seemed they had discovered someone had attempted to assassinate him and noticed the Soul Bone, yet they didn't pressure him or cause trouble. Instead, they left immediately.

Dai Yao could not decipher the Night Watcher's intentions, so he dared not retrieve the Soul Bone yet.

The night's events made Dai Yao increasingly uneasy. The close call with the assassination, the ambiguous behavior of the Night Watcher—ever since he defeated Dai Yaming, his situation had become even more perilous. He urgently wanted to leave the Xingluo Empire.

"Zhu Qing, hurry up. We're getting close to the time Uncle San gave us. If we don't leave soon, we might never get the chance!"

While Dai Yao was lost in thought, a fiery red figure landed beside him.

"What's wrong? I sensed a strong fluctuation of soul power here," Feng Wutong asked with concern.

"Nothing, just used a soul technique," Dai Yao casually brushed her off.

"Used a soul technique?" Feng Wutong clearly didn't believe him.

"Really, it's nothing! Go get some rest. It's late, and it's not proper for a man and woman to be alone together," Dai Yao teased.

"Pah!" Feng Wutong blushed, "Do you think I want to be with you?"

As her words fell, she summoned her martial soul and flew toward her own dwelling.

As she felt the cool breeze against her, a trace of melancholy rose in her heart. She knew Dai Yao had just been trying to get her to leave.

"Sigh."

With a soft sigh, she returned to her straw hut and, looking through the window, gazed out.

Under the bright moonlight, Dai Yao's solitary figure stood by the lake, lost in thought...

The next day.

Zhu Zhuqing finally returned to the academy.

When she saw Dai Yao, a faint smile appeared on her normally cold face. She took his hand and whispered, "I got my second soul ring."

Dai Yao gently stroked Zhu Zhuqing's hair, just like he would a little kitten. He had grown so accustomed to having her by his side that after just a few days apart, he felt slightly uncomfortable.

"You've worked hard," Dai Yao said warmly.

After a brief moment of warmth, he spoke again, "Tonight, we leave the Xingluo Empire."

"Is it really time already?" Zhu Zhuqing asked in surprise.

"Yes, if we don't leave now, it may be too late. I'll notify Lan Yuxuan and tell him to get ready. You should go pack. We leave tonight!" Dai Yao said seriously.

Seeing the gravity in his expression, Zhu Zhuqing understood the urgency. She nodded, her Yūmíng Zhǔzǎi martial soul manifesting. In the blink of an eye, her tall figure vanished into the forest.

Dai Yao headed in the opposite direction, looking for Lan Yuxuan.

That night.

Under the cover of darkness, Dai Yao and Zhu Zhuqing moved through the academy's teaching area and arrived at a secluded entrance of the academy.

This was the meeting place with Lan Yuxuan.

The two were dressed simply in plain, peasant clothes.

Zhu Zhuqing had replaced her usual leather pants with the plain attire, and her once remarkable figure now appeared much more ordinary.

The two of them looked like ordinary peasants. When Dai Yao greeted Lan Yuxuan, he almost didn't recognize them.

"You two really know how to disguise yourselves. I almost didn't recognize you," Lan Yuxuan exclaimed.

Previously, Lan Yuxuan had been scolding them, attempting to drive them away, but Dai Yao didn't expose his lies. Instead, he got straight to the point.

"How do we leave the Xingluo Empire?" Dai Yao asked.

Lan Yuxuan led them out of the academy and into a vast open area where eight horse-drawn carriages were parked.

"There are eight carriages in total. His Highness will travel in one, and the other seven are for covering you," Lan Yuxuan explained.

Once Dai Yao understood the arrangement of the Wuhun Temple, he felt reassured. The seven decoy carriages would provide maximum security. Once they left the Xingluo Empire, it would be as if the sea was wide and the birds could fly freely!

"Thank you, I will remember this favor," Dai Yao said, cupping his hands in gratitude.

Lan Yuxuan was taken aback. He hadn't expected Dai Yao, such a talented individual, to thank him. He lost his noble demeanor for a moment and replied, "You're welcome, I'm just doing my duty for the Wuhun Temple."

Dai Yao helped Zhu Zhuqing onto one of the carriages and then climbed aboard himself. The coachman cracked the whip, and the horses neighed as the carriage slowly began to move, passing through the streets and the imperial gates, gradually fading into the distance.

Only the cold moonlight illuminated the figures as they disappeared into the night.
