Chapter 67: The Leak of Information
At Star Luo Royal Academy, Vice Principal's Office.
Dai Hengyu, wearing golden-rimmed glasses, sat in front of Dai Yaming's expulsion document, troubled.
A black mist suddenly appeared, and as it dispersed, a man in gray robes appeared, kneeling on one knee.
It was the same gray-robed man who had appeared at Dai Yao's house a few days ago.
It turned out that the gray-robed man wasn't a night guard of the academy, but rather an elite shadow guard of Dai Hengyu.
"Has Dai Yao safely left the city?" Dai Hengyu asked, keeping his head lowered.
"His Highness the Fourth Prince has left the city safely. Under the protection of the Spirit Hall, he will be able to reach the Heaven Dou Empire without issue," the gray-robed man responded.
"In that case, withdraw our people. We don't want to be discovered by the Empress's people. It would be difficult to explain," Dai Hengyu ordered.
"Yes, Your Highness," the shadow guard replied.
Just as the gray-robed man was about to leave, Dai Hengyu seemed to remember something and called him back.
"What happened with Dai Yao a few days ago?"
"Replying to Your Highness, on the night of the day before yesterday, the Fourth Prince was assassinated," the shadow guard answered.
"WHAT? Why didn't you tell me?" Dai Hengyu raised his head, his voice rising in anger.
"Your Highness has done so much for the Fourth Prince. It would not be wise to put yourself in danger," the gray-robed man answered, his head bowed.
Dai Hengyu looked coldly at the man and said, "You've been with me for many years and you know my temperament. I'll overlook it this time due to our long-standing relationship. But if this happens again, you'll return to the Shadow Nest."
The shadow guards were trained in a strict manner. They were only loyal to one person. If their master abandoned them, they had to return to the Shadow Nest to live out their lives.
"Thank you, Your Highness, for your grace," the shadow guard lowered his head in deep gratitude.
He understood that this time, his actions had been somewhat improper. According to Dai Hengyu's personality, if he hadn't acted with his master's interests in mind, he would have been discarded by now.
The royal family always valued loyalty above all else. Even a Soul Douluo would be abandoned if they lacked loyalty.
"Now, tell me what happened." Dai Hengyu dismissed the matter and didn't press the shadow guard further.
"Yes, Your Highness. Based on the soul power fluctuations left behind, it appears that the Fourth Prince was attacked by a Soul Ancestor. Normally, the Fourth Prince should not have survived such an attack, but not only did he survive, but the attacker also vanished without a trace."
"I also discovered a soul power fluctuation near the lake next to His Highness's residence. From my years of experience, I believe it to be a soul bone."
"Hmm?!" Dai Hengyu's gaze sharpened, thinking to himself:
"Spirit Hall must be paying close attention to Dai Yao. To let a Grand Soul Master survive an attack from a Soul Ancestor means that he's an important asset."
"This little fellow is quite cautious, though. He resisted the temptation of the soul bone and threw it into the lake. Now, I can be more at ease with him going to the Heaven Dou Empire."
Dai Hengyu asked, "Have you told anyone else about this?"
"No."
"Then keep this information buried in your heart forever. If I hear any of this from someone else, you'll return to the Shadow Nest," Dai Hengyu commanded coldly.
"Yes," the gray-robed man replied, his head lowered.
"The academy's security is strong. How did the assassin manage to infiltrate? Have you investigated this in the last few days?" Dai Hengyu inquired.
"I've investigated. With the academy's security, an ordinary Soul Ancestor wouldn't have the ability to break through. I've checked all suspicious individuals over the past few days, and there is only one suspect."
"Oh? Who is it?" Dai Hengyu asked.
"A soul master from the Star Luo Royal Academy battle team, Zhu Tao."
Dai Hengyu snorted coldly, "Zhu Tao, Zhu! What a great Zhu family! What a great Empress! To be causing trouble right under my nose! How dare they target Dai Yao in my territory."
"Since that's the case, take back the expulsion document for Dai Yaming and let him cause some trouble for Davis."
Then he ordered, "Even though Dai Yao has left, the news must still be kept under wraps for as long as possible."
The gray-robed man hesitated, "Your Highness, tomorrow will be our limit. After tomorrow, we won't be able to conceal Dai Yao's departure to the Spirit Hall anymore."
"Sigh, do your best," Dai Hengyu sighed.
...
Several days later, the news that the Fourth Prince had headed to the Spirit Hall could no longer be kept hidden.
The first to hear the news was the Fifth Elder, who was in the royal palace.
A prince of the Star Luo Empire, going to the Spirit Hall for a soul master registration? Doesn't that mean the Spirit Hall is ranked higher than the Star Luo Empire?
The Fifth Elder was furious! He immediately realized what Dai Yao was planning and understood the meaningful smile from Archbishop Ferdinand during the recent duel.
"What a kid! So he's been secretly planning to ally with the Spirit Hall! He even tricked me with that fat idiot Ferdinand! If I let this slip by, what face would I have as the Fifth Elder?"
The royal family saw the prince as the face of the empire. If the prince were to ally with the Spirit Hall, it would reflect poorly on his education.
"Go, immediately go to Star Luo Royal Academy and bring Dai Yao here!" the Fifth Elder ordered his subordinates.
His red hair blazed with uncontainable fury.
A few hours later, his subordinates rushed back, barely able to catch their breath: "Elder, bad news. According to Dai Yao's classmates, he hasn't been seen for several days!"
"What? He must have planned this in advance!" The Fifth Elder leapt to his feet, his strong body resembling a demon, sending his subordinates trembling.
The Fifth Elder appeared rough, but he was far from foolish. He thought to himself:
"Since he's already been gone for days, and I'm only now hearing about it, someone must have been helping him from the shadows. The Spirit Hall couldn't have had the power to pull this off. It must have been someone within the royal family—hmm, probably that little Dai Hengyu."
"Let's put Dai Hengyu's matter aside for now. We must capture Dai Yao first!"
The Fifth Elder realized that by now, using conventional forces would be too late. If the news reached the emperor, by the time it was relayed to the borders, Dai Yao would have already left the Star Luo Empire.
The only solution now was for him to personally take action.
He opened the map of the Star Luo Empire and quickly pinpointed the most likely exit points Dai Yao might use.
He ordered his subordinates, "Go inform the royal family. I'll personally intercept that rebellious nephew!"
His subordinates broke into a cold sweat. They knew that the Fifth Elder had once been a legendary figure on the continent, known as the "Bloodthirsty Demon Tiger" in his younger days.
Many people trembled at the mere mention of his name.
Though the Fifth Elder had been in the royal palace for years, no one dared to underestimate him.
He couldn't help but feel sorry for Dai Yao. If the Bloodthirsty Demon Tiger was after you, there was no good ending in sight!
Suddenly, a ball of red fire shot out from the palace, soaring into the sky and heading towards the distant horizon.
The entire sky seemed to ignite in a crimson blaze, and the powerful soul power fluctuations sent people crashing to the ground in Star Luo Imperial City, gazing up in shock at the sky.
A powerful figure had made their move!
Meanwhile, at the Spirit Hall...
The fat Archbishop opened his eyes!
