Chapter 27: The Getaway
Ethan's eyes locked onto the SUV, his mind racing with the need to escape. He grabbed Sarah's hand and pulled her towards the vehicle.
"Come on!" he yelled.
They sprinted towards the SUV, Ethan's heart pounding in his chest. He could hear the sound of footsteps behind them, heavy and deliberate.
As they reached the SUV, Ethan yanked open the door and pushed Sarah inside. He followed close behind, slamming the door shut behind him.
The SUV's engine roared to life as Ethan floored it, speeding out of the parking garage. They weaved through traffic, Ethan's eyes scanning the rearview mirror for any signs of pursuit.
Sarah breathed a sigh of relief as they finally hit the open road. "We made it," she said, her voice shaking.
Ethan's jaw clenched. "We're not out of the woods yet," he said. "We need to find a safe place to lay low."
Sarah nodded, her eyes scanning the GPS. "I think I found a place," she said. "It's a motel about 20 miles from here."
Ethan nodded, his eyes locked on the road ahead. "Let's go."
To be continued.
