Chapter 1

I was born special, with two hearts beating inside my body.

This was the only thing that could please my parents.

Because my brother had a congenital heart defect.

My parents gave birth to me solely so my brother's life could continue.

Later, I met Aria and married her.

She rescued me from the abyss of desperately seeking familial affection.

I thought she would be different from my parents.

But when my brother's condition worsened, she became obsessed with the idea that I should donate one of my hearts to him.

What she didn't know was that I only had one heart left.

And my other heart was already with her.

------

"All I ask for is your heart, why are you being so selfish?"

"Weren't you born just to keep your brother alive?"

Aria gripped my hand tightly.

"But I want to live too. Without my heart, I'll die."

Aria's expression hardened, then she continued.

"You have two hearts. Give up one, and you'll still have another to live with."

"But your brother is different. Without this heart from you, he will die."

Ignoring my struggles, Aria pushed me into the prep room.

I helplessly tried to explain.

"I only have one heart now."

"Didn't you see the results on the report?"

Aria wouldn't listen at all.

"Who knows what you've done secretly to avoid donating your heart? You even dared to bribe the people in the exam room."

Aria thought I had bribed the people who examined me to alter the test results.

"That's not true, Aria. I had surgery when I was little and already donated one heart."

"Enough, Fintan. We're just asking you to save your brother. What are you being so stubborn about?"

Aria cut me off.

"I'm not lying. My heart is in you."

Aria didn't hear a word I said, heading straight for my brother's prep room.At this moment, the other doctors in the prep room were also stunned.

Then someone spoke up.

"Whispering sweet nothings at a time like this? That's just sickening."

"Your brother is fighting for his life, and here you are, spouting nauseating love talk to your sister-in-law."

Only our families knew about my marriage to Aria.

Aria's colleagues didn't know me.

Plus, Aria had personally handled everything regarding my brother's hospitalization, so everyone in the department thought my brother was Aria's husband.

And Aria had never bothered to correct this misunderstanding.

"Exactly. Instead of trying to save his own brother, he's hitting on his sister-in-law."

"Your heart is wasted on you, truly."

Hearing the other doctors' comments, I couldn't help but want to reveal the truth.

"Actually, I'm the..."

Aria came out of the prep room and grabbed my hand tightly.

"Today, you must donate your heart."

"Your brother is already in the operating room. You're next."

As she spoke, Aria pulled out a stack of documents.

"I've already signed everything. You can go straight to the operating table."

Inside the operating room, I met Garrett. His weak appearance tugged at everyone's heartstrings.

"Don't worry, your wife Dr. Blackwood will definitely make sure you live a long life."Garrett didn't argue with the form of address, but smiled weakly.

"It's all my fault, making my little brother sacrifice so much for someone like me."

His words were full of self-blame, but his eyes held a challenging look when he gazed at me.

The other doctors who heard this thought my brother was very kind, while I was cold-hearted.

After comforting Garrett, Aria forcefully pushed me onto the operating table, ignoring my violent struggles.

She ordered the anesthesiologist to quickly come forward and administer the anesthetic.

Moments later, my fierce struggling subsided.

Aria brushed her hand across my cheek.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure you survive."

Aria's mentor had performed heart transplant surgery before, so she was confident she could keep me alive.

"After your brother recovers, the whole family will accept you, and I'll be by your side too."

Aria and her colleagues nervously but methodically performed the surgery.

After a long while, Aria extracted a heart from my body.

Without time to examine it closely, she took my heart and rushed into Garrett's operating room.

My chest lay open, my body lying lonely on the operating table.

The sharp blaring of the monitoring equipment startled the doctor on watch in the operating room.
