"How did he die? Didn't they say he had two hearts?"
One of Aria's colleagues asked, puzzled.
"You actually believed Dr. Blackwood when she said she was just playing around?"
"It's good that he's dead. Serves him right for all the terrible things he did. Not only did he leave Dr. Blackwood's husband to die, but he also had the audacity to try and seduce Dr. Blackwood."
Another colleague retorted.
"So what do we do now?"
"He's already dead. We'll just wait for someone to collect the body. If no one claims it, the staff in the morgue will handle it themselves."
With that, all the doctors left the operating room.
Aria focused intently on Garrett's surgery.
Although she was confident, this was her first time performing a heart transplant on a patient.
Fortunately, after several hours, she successfully completed the operation.
After finishing the surgery, Aria followed Garrett back to his room.
Once Garrett was settled, she finally remembered me.
Just as Aria was about to return to the operating room to check on me, she ran into a colleague who had been in surgery with her earlier in the hallway.
"Where's my husband?"
The colleague thought for a moment before answering.
"Didn't he already come back?"
"Don't worry, someone will be watching him after the surgery. The nurses in the department will take care of your husband."Aria didn't dwell on the oddity of her colleague's words, instead feeling they had a point.
With her around, the nurses in the department would keep a closer eye on things.
So Aria returned to her office and continued working.
A day later, Garrett woke up.
Aria was by Garrett's side.
"Garrett, you're finally awake."
When Garrett opened his eyes and saw Aria, he burst into tears of excitement.
Aria leaned forward and hugged Garrett.
"Don't worry, the surgery went smoothly."
"Your heart won't have any problems from now on."
Garrett touched his chest where his heart was.
Thinking about how the illness that had troubled him for years was finally gone, he kept hugging Aria and crying.
Aria reminded him not to get too emotional while rubbing his back to help him calm down.
Seeing Aria like this, the nurses in the department teased her.
"Dr. Blackwood, you're so good to your husband."
Aria was stunned when she heard this.
She remembered that her actual husband was in another room in the department, so she started to explain.
"You've got it wrong, he's not..."
Garrett timely clutched his chest, interrupting Aria's words.
Aria could only pat his back."I didn't stop crying even when you told me to. All you need to do now is rest so you can recover."
Perhaps seeing Garrett in this state made Aria suddenly think of me.
It seemed she hadn't seen me since the surgery.
"Garrett, you rest well. I'm going to check on Fintan."
As she spoke, Aria was about to stand up.
But Garrett suddenly grabbed Aria's hand.
"I had the surgery without telling Mom and Dad. This is a critical time for recovery. I'm afraid I won't recover well if no one stays with me."
Aria saw how pale Garrett looked, and her heart softened.
She also thought about how the doctors and nurses in the department would somewhat favor her, looking after me, so she felt reassured.
"Alright, I'll stay with you for a few more days."
Garrett slowly closed his eyes only after seeing Aria sit back down.
In the morgue, the attendants looked at my corpse with concern.
"It's been two days and no one has come to claim the body. What should we do?"
Another attendant was busy cleaning up.
"What are you looking at? The sooner we clean up, the sooner we can clock out."
So the two of them worked together to carelessly toss my body into a bag.
"Look at the state of it. Such a gruesome death. Doesn't seem like he was a good person."
"Good person or bad person, they all look the same after they're cremated." "That's true, it's just a shame, still so young."
Two more days passed.
After seeing that Garrett had mostly recovered, Aria finally remembered to come check on me.
