Chapter 3

She walked into my hospital room, only to find it empty.

A nurse was tidying up the bed.

"Where's the patient from this bed?"

The nurse looked up and saw it was Aria.

"Discharged."

Hearing the nurse's words, Aria felt a twinge of annoyance.

She thought to herself, I just had surgery, why aren't I resting properly in the hospital? Where have I run off to now?

She took out her phone and dialed my number.

But the call wouldn't go through.

"Fine then, if you're bold enough to die out there, don't come crying to me."

Aria stormed back to Garrett's room, fuming.

Garrett sensed Aria's anger and spoke up.

"Is Fintan really mad? Won't he forgive you?"

"It's all my fault. I'll go explain everything to him right away. Don't let this cause a misunderstanding between you two."

Garrett rushed to get out of bed, but Aria immediately stopped him.

"Why do you care about him? What you need to do now is focus on getting better."

"That way, when you're discharged, your parents will be happy to hear the good news."

"As for Fintan, he's not going to die. He's already been discharged."

Aria recalled how I had begged her incessantly before my surgery, and it still left her feeling uneasy.

She couldn't understand why I, as a family member, would refuse to help save my brother's life. After seeing how Garrett was always looking out for me, she felt even more that I wasn't as good as Garrett.

She thought that since I was being so stubborn about leaving the hospital, she'd let me have some time to cool off on my own.

When Garrett was discharged, it wouldn't be too late to have me come then.

In the doctor's office, colleagues were laughing and chatting.

As soon as Aria entered the office, everyone immediately shut their mouths.

Aria felt it was strange.

"What were you all just talking about?"

Nobody said anything.

After a while, a colleague came forward and put an arm around Aria's shoulders.

"What else would we be talking about? Of course, we were discussing how deep your love is as husband and wife."

Aria thought about how I had been forced to donate one of my hearts.

She felt that I truly did have deep feelings for her.

Although I was forced into it, I had still helped her and saved a life.

Thinking about this, she forgave my unexplained disappearance, but she was angry that I wasn't answering her calls.

Her colleague noticed the melancholy on her face.

"Is your husband in a bad mood?"

Aria didn't say anything.

The colleague continued.

"He just had surgery, it's normal for him to be in a bad mood."

"You should be more understanding of him, do something to cheer him up."

Hearing her colleague's words, Aria's brow gradually relaxed. She remembered how much I loved the pastries from the bakery near our home, so she decided to stop by after work.

Aria carried the pastries back to our apartment.

"Honey? I bought your favorite pastries," she called out.

There was no response.

She had just set down the pastries when she noticed the divorce papers I had left on the table a week ago.

The moment I learned she wanted me to donate my heart, I had decided on divorce.

Aria stared at the papers in disbelief.

She thought to herself, was it really necessary?

It's just a heart.

How dare he ask for a divorce over this.

Aria angrily threw the pastries into the trash.

"If you don't want a home, then don't ever come back."

Just then, the phone rang.

Aria picked up her cell phone.

"Aria? Where has Fintan been lately?"

It was unusual for my dad to call and ask about me.

After all, in the past he only ever talked about Garrett.

Aria thought for a while, realizing only my parents could draw me out.

Plus, Garrett had mostly recovered by now.

So she told my dad about Garrett's surgery.

My parents rushed to the hospital overnight.

The moment Garrett saw his mom and dad, tears started streaming down his face uncontrollably.
