"This job should be considered as the reward for the help you gave us with stealing the Relic some time ago," V said before walking out of the consultation room.
Watching V's departure, Judy's eyes showed a hint of astonishment.
Alex Carter softly explained, "V is a tough person on the outside. She wants to help you but doesn't always know how to express it."
Judy's eyes turned red.
"Thank you, Alex, for earlier..."
"Don't worry about what happened earlier," Alex smiled.
"Alright, clear your mind; we're going to save Evelyn."
Judy nodded, quickly holding back her tears.
...
After leaving Fingers' clinic, the group regrouped.
"Jack, I'll go with V this time. Fingers should have some valuable items here, and we might hit the jackpot," Alex said.
Glancing upstairs, Jack looked puzzled.
"Can there really be anything worthwhile in this rundown place?"
Alex smiled: "Have I ever lied to you? You might find some surprises."
"Alright, I'll take a good look around," Jack's face lit up with excitement.
Even though they'd made a decent amount of money recently, the idea of getting something for nothing was still appealing.
So, Jack headed upstairs to Fingers' clinic to start searching.
Meanwhile, Alex, V, and Judy rushed towards the factory where the scavengers were filming black braindances.
At night, the streets of Night City were nearly deserted.
In this city brimming with violence and crime, anyone with sense stayed indoors after dark.
The car sped along, and within half an hour, they reached their destination.
Without hesitation, Judy started the debugger device.
"The communication is connected. You go ahead, and I'll find the factory's layout."
"Be careful," Alex instructed before he and V entered the factory.
For Alex, any layout map was unnecessary.
He was already intimately familiar with the place.
With his formidable strength, the absence of intelligent firearms meant he could handle things with his "sense."
However, to avoid drawing attention from the scavengers in the facility, Alex decided to proceed stealthily.
After all, this wasn't a game anymore, and any loud disturbances could lead to unforeseen consequences.
The two worked together seamlessly.
V, using her operating system, silently dispatched several guards outside.
Meanwhile, Alex approached and swiftly took out the hacker, disabling the facility's surveillance.
Once reunited, V hacked into the equipment while Alex played the silent reaper.
With their teamwork, it was as if they faced no obstacles.
"Judy, we've cleared the enemies on the upper floors. Did you find the layout?" V asked.
"I found it. I'll join you now."
Soon, the three were reunited and headed towards the lower levels.
Alex and V's collaboration was nearly flawless.
Enemies along the way were eliminated one by one, none the wiser.
In less than half an hour, they reached the room where Evelyn was held.
Of course, only Alex knew this from the start.
"It's Evelyn!"
The moment she saw Evelyn, Judy rushed over in a frenzy.
However, Evelyn was unconscious.
After cutting off the braindance recording link, the three quickly left the factory with Evelyn.
They drove back, and by the time they reached Judy's apartment, it was late at night.
V carried Evelyn out of the car, while Alex opened the trunk to retrieve the tied-up Woodman.
"The Woodman? Why did you bring him along?" Judy asked Alex in surprise.
She hadn't expected the Woodman from Clouds to remain in the car trunk this whole time.
Alex glanced at the unconscious Woodman and said, "Trust me, after you examine Evelyn's behavior chip, you'll understand why I did this."
Judy looked confused and turned to V for support.
However, V simply shook her head, indicating she was also unaware of Alex's plan.
...
They settled Evelyn in, leaving the Woodman in the bathroom's bathtub.
After handling these tasks, Alex and V prepared to leave.
However, Judy suddenly spoke up:
"It's late. If you don't mind... you can crash on the sofa for the night and have breakfast before leaving."
This time, Alex was taken aback.
This wasn't right!
Staying over at Judy's was supposed to happen after the mission at Clouds, wasn't it?
Wasn't this a bit too sudden?
But on second thought, since the original job had turned into a free favor, perhaps Judy's appreciation had increased.
Moreover, with potential threats like the Woodman around, her invitation seemed reasonable.
V nodded first: "I'm fine with that. How about you, Alex?"
"I don't see a problem, and it ensures the Woodman doesn't cause any trouble."
Staying at Judy's was something Alex wholeheartedly agreed to!
Besides, it would allow him to monitor Evelyn's condition as soon as she woke up.
Although the chances might be slim, he wanted to try his best to help Evelyn.
If she survived, perhaps Judy would be even more grateful!
