After my left leg was amputated, I never looked at that truncated limb except when absolutely necessary for bathing.

Let alone the spice of love, sex.

I couldn't move past it, and I didn't want Stella to see it more than she had to.

So our marriage reaching its end was never just one person's fault.

"I lied about going on business trips, but I was really going to bars to drink myself numb."

"I didn't understand then. I summoned the courage to accept you, but you kept pushing me away."

Stella moved closer to me step by step, finally lowering her head so I couldn't see her expression.

"That night, Caelan came to pick me up. He drugged my drink. I mistook him for you and had a wild night."

"He reminded me of those three years before the accident. You were big and strong like him, flashing your canine tooth when you laughed. It would always nick me when we kissed."

Those fair hands fell, brushing past my lips.
