The admiral who called himself Ghost Punishment was radiating an overwhelming presence, as if he could swallow mountains and rivers whole!
"W-What the...?!?!" Sarah was startled by the sudden turn of events. What kind of god-tier opponent was this? Someone who could literally ride the waves?!
As the figure of the armored warrior on horseback drew closer, Sarah finally noticed the terrifying details—Admiral Ghost Punishment was fully armed, wielding a nearly ten-foot-long halberd!
"What the hell?!" Sarah gasped. She looked down at her own knightly attire and had an unbelievable thought. "Ethan… you're not expecting me to fight him, are you?!"
"Of course," Ethan's voice rang out. "Draw your sword, Sarah. It's time for a one-on-one duel."
"You call this a one-on-one duel?"
Sarah groaned but quickly reached for the tang hengdao on her waist, gritted her teeth, and pulled it out with a sharp clang! The blade gleamed under the sunlight, razor-sharp.
However, at just over three feet long, it was laughably small compared to her opponent's weapon.
From weapons to sheer size, she was completely outmatched!
"You've gotta be kidding me! How am I supposed to fight this?!" Sarah shouted in despair.
"I accept my fate!!!" But Admiral Ghost Punishment didn't care about her struggles. He raised his massive halberd and kicked his horse's sides. "Charge, Phantom Steed!!!"
His fierce warhorse neighed in response, and in the next instant, man and beast rushed toward Sarah like an unstoppable force!
At the same time, Sarah's survival instincts kicked in. Instead of facing him head-on, she executed her go-to combo move—
She quickly removed her helmet, cut off the VR sensory link at lightning speed, and jumped off the VR platform in one fluid motion!
The moment she landed, she bolted straight toward Ethan, who was standing on the other side of the living room.
She was ready to fight—if not against the admiral, then against the man responsible for putting her in this mess!
The Real Battle Begins
"Master, Sarah is approaching you with hostile intent," a robotic voice, Chang'e, suddenly warned.
"Huh?" Ethan blinked and quickly took off his VR headset, just in time to see Sarah charging at him like a furious storm.
"You bastard! I'm gonna kill you!!!"
She pounced on Ethan, knocking him onto the couch and pinning him down, raining down soft but relentless punches.
"I was wrong! I was wrong, Sarah!" Ethan cried out in mock surrender. Although Sarah's punches didn't actually hurt, he had to play along. "Stop hitting me! Stop! I swear I didn't trick you! You said you could handle it without monsters, and I didn't give you any monsters!!!"
"That wasn't much different from a monster!!!" Sarah fumed. "A massive guy on a warhorse with a giant halberd, and you expected me to fight him?! Are you even human?!"
"I told you, it's just for show! If he got close, the game would've automatically turned off his attack power, and you wouldn't have taken any damage!" Ethan defended himself.
"I don't care! I'm not listening!!!"
The Big Reveal
After what felt like a million light punches, their scuffle finally settled down.
"So, Ethan… why did you suddenly create all these game elements at once?" Sarah asked, still catching her breath. "Shouldn't you be making games one at a time?"
Good question. In just ten minutes, she had experienced content from three entirely different games, each one more intense than the last.
"The reason I made all these game materials first was to test my new gaming platform," Ethan explained.
"Gaming platform?" Sarah raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, it's my next big project," Ethan said.
A New Kind of Game World
Now that he had bought his own development space, it was time to move forward with his grand vision—creating his own game platform.
It wasn't just about avoiding Steam's revenue cut. More importantly, Ethan wanted full control.
If he only made games without owning the platform, he'd have to rely on third-party servers. The quality of those servers would directly affect his online games, which was a huge disadvantage.
Instead of depending on others, why not do it all himself?
After all, he had the money and the technology. What couldn't he build?
And unlike existing gaming platforms, his vision was something completely new—something like Oasis from Ready Player One.
A platform that functioned as a virtual world, where anything possible in real life could be done inside the game… and even things impossible in reality could become possible.
That's when a game concept came to Ethan's mind—
GTA.
Also known as Grand Theft Auto, it was famous for its high degree of freedom, allowing players to do anything they wanted in an open-world city.
What if he built something like GTA, but as a platform instead of just a single game?
It could be the foundation of his New World.
A virtual city where players could explore freely, and within that world, they could play any other game.
For example, take Yu-Gi-Oh!—instead of making it a standalone game, he could integrate it into this new platform.
Just imagine… card game enthusiasts wandering around the virtual city, meeting like-minded players on the streets, and spontaneously challenging each other to duels.
It would be exactly like the anime—where duelists could battle anytime, anywhere, without restrictions.
A revolutionary gaming platform like this would be irresistible to players. Even people who had never played video games before would be tempted to join.
At that point, Ethan wouldn't just be a game developer.
He'd be a god to the gaming world…
