Alice was stunned for a moment, before she laughed lightly after.
"You can call me Dan or Ken, whichever you prefer." Daniel stated.
"Alright Ken. What Faculty are you in?"
"School of Computing, Cyber Security. How about you?"
Alice smiled, her eyes twinkling.
"Such a coincidence. I'm in the same department as you."
Daniel was surprised.
"A coincidence indeed. If you don't mind, could I have your number?"
He took out his iPhone and presented it to her. She bit her lips slightly.
"Yeah, no problem."
By the time she finished inputting her number into the phone, they finally arrived at the lecture hall. The group disbanded as they entered the hall, but Alice went with Daniel, eventually being seated with him at the middle rows.
By now, there were only ten minutes left to the lecture.
"So you're a Web Designer?" Alice asked curiously, shifting to Daniel slightly to create space for someone else.
"Like I said, freelance." Daniel was about to separate himself a bit to be more comfortable, but swallowed this thought down when he saw the fair thighs and felt the softness beside him.
The pair discussed for some time, and by now, the time for the lecture had elapsed and almost fifteen extra minutes had passed, with the crowd growing a bit restless.
Another five minutes later, a group of higher-leveled students, probably part of the student union, came in and addressed the students.
After expending some effort to quiet the crowd down, one of them finally delivered the message.
"This lecture is cancelled!"
A small uproar arose, though most were secretly glad.
"However, we will take this time to orient you on FUTA to the best of our capability."
Even though the lecture had been cancelled, another form of lecture had begun. Daniel and Alice, along with the hundreds of other students in the lecture hall listened attentively as an interactive orientation session took place.
The things they said were the standard stuff, the baseline. They basically introduced FUTA to the students and occasionally asked questions about the management identities.
Daniel answered a few. It was not like he was going to attend a school without knowing who was in charge of it first. After the routine, they also dropped a few punchlines like,
'Your first class determines your first class', along with encouraging students to attend class regularlyand punctually.
About an hour later, the orientation session was over, everyone gaining quite a bit of knowledge regarding their present circumstances.
The class scattered, having another class to catch in less than an hour.
Alice didn't tag along with Daniel though, clearly not trying to sell herself short. She joined the company of a female friend instead, especially as Daniel had a different destination before the next class.
He was still in the process of physical registration and went to make some inquiries to find out if he was missing any important documents before he officially started the registration.
It was mandatory to have completed it before January 29th, the matriculation date, but it was still the 6th. There was plenty of time left.
It shouldn't take him more than three to four days.
A few minutes of walking later, he arrived at SOC and started the mundane task of physical registration.
There were quite a few people in the School Officer's office, though that wasn't his first destination.
Rather, he had to look for the 300 level students who were collecting the faculty dues.
The price of ₦4500 was basically nothing to Daniel, but the real challenge was finding the specific people. It took almost a few minutes of asking around before he finally found them.
After paying the dues, he was given a receipt and thanked the lady, leaving immediately to the School officer's office.
And so it began...
The grueling school life.
