Kellan immediately changed his demeanor, bowing and nodding in front of his brother.
"Oh, Mr. Thornton, what brings you here? Perfect timing, we just finished making our New Year's Eve dinner. Why don't you join Melody for a bite?"
His brother ignored him, as he had noticed my battered body.
My usually calm and collected brother's hands began to tremble involuntarily.
He pointed at me.
Kellan misunderstood and ran up to him, fawning, "Mr. Thornton, don't worry. I won't let anyone who bullied your sister off the hook."
"This bitch is my ex-wife, but she dared to talk back to Melody. Besides, Melody is carrying my child, so I taught her a lesson."
"Don't worry, you can leave Melody to me. I promise I won't let anyone harm Melody in the future."
Kellan kept rambling on, not noticing that with each word he spoke, Mr. Thornton's face grew darker.
Until he could no longer contain himself and slapped Kellan across the face.
