Shattered Trust

Sarafina continued to move deeper into the house, her heart pounding as her senses had recognised the heels. She strained to make sense of the muffled voices coming from the bedroom. Pausing outside the door, her hands trembled, and her legs shaking with fear. She listened carefully, barely able to believe what she was hearing.

"I really think you're smart, babe. How did you come up with the idea of cancer insurance?" Solana's voice carried an unsettling tone of admiration. "Her father died of cancer, after all."

Caleb's voice responded coolly, his words cutting through the silence. "I think it's time we implement the policy. She's not going to last much longer."

Sarafina's nearly collapsed as the betrayal hit her like a physical blow She stood frozen, her hands shaking uncontrollably. She forced herself to take another step closer, inching forward until she reached the door. Her was surprised as she peeked inside and her suspicions were right.

What she saw made her stomach churn—Caleb and Solana tangled together on the bed, oblivious to her presence, their conversation continuing as though she didn't even exist.

"You did a great job," Solana purred, running her fingers through Caleb's hair. "Was it a million-dollar policy?"

"Yes," Caleb replied, his voice cold and calculating. "If she dies, we cash in."

Sarafina's heart stopped. She couldn't believe what she was hearing—her life has turned into a mere transaction.

Solana's eyes sparkled with wicked satisfaction as she signed a document Caleb handed her. "And I already got the diagnostic insurance," Caleb added. "I bought you that designer bag you wanted and put the rest in stocks. We'll keep getting more."

Solana leaned in, her lips brushing Caleb's cheek. "Good. But after Sarafina's death, I want a house."

Caleb laughed darkly. "That bitch is holding out longer than I thought."

Solana smirked. "Maybe I should take her out for work and... push her somewhere."

"No," Caleb interjected quickly, his voice suddenly protective. "I don't want you risking yourself."baby.

Sarafina couldn't bear it anymore. Her world spun with a fury she could no longer contain. The anger surged through her, and a heartbreak,She couldn't imagine her best friend will ever betrayed her, turned to leave, but then her eyes fell on something in the corner of the room—her family photo, discarded in the waste bin. Her hands clenched, and anger shown all over her face.

She stormed into the room, slamming the door with a force that startled them both. "You crazy bastards!" she screamed, her voice shaking with intense.

Caleb and Solana froze, their faces suddenlyturned pale. They quickly pulled away from each other, scrambling to cover their tracks, but the damage was done. Sarafina's voice cracked as she shouted through her tears. She grabbed anything within reach and throw it at them without hesitation, unable to hold back her emotions.

"Are you out of your mind?" Caleb barked, stepping forward, his voice laced with anger and frustration.

Sarafina's eyes blazed with uncontainable fury as she pointed at him. "Out of my mind? You're the one planning my death! This is insurance fraud, Caleb! I will report you!"

Caleb chuckled darkly, his amusement only serving to fan the flames of her rage. He turned to Solana. "Let's go," he said ignoring Sarafina completely.

Solana hesitated for a moment, her eyes flicking to Sarafina, but she ultimately followed Caleb out of the room, leaving Sarafina to stew in the wreckage of her life. Alone, Sarafina crumpled to the floor, the weight of her shattered existence crashing down on her. The tears flowed freely as she sobbed, the betrayal too much to bear.

---

The room fell into a suffocating silence. Sarafina, her body wracked with sobs, stared at the remnants of her life—the broken picture frames, scattered papers, and the haunting scent of betrayal that seemed to linger in the air.

Her eyes once again fell on the photo of her family, still lying discarded in the waste bin. Slowly, she walked over, her hands trembling as she picked it up. The smiling faces of her loved ones stared back at her, mocking her, reminding her of a happiness that now seemed so distant, so unreachable.

"How did it come to this?" she whispered to herself, her voice a raw, broken sound. She clutched the photo to her chest.

The memories flooded in—Caleb's sweet promises, the life they had once planned together, all of it a cruel lie. And Solana—her so-called friend—had been the knife in her back, twisting deeper with every calculated move.

The room felt smaller, suffocating. It was filled with the ghosts of a love that had never existed. Sarafina's anger flared once again. Her fists clenched around the edges of the photo, but this time, she didn't want to scream. She wanted to break something, anything, but instead, all she could do was cry.

---

Sarafina stood up slowly, her legs unsteady, but the surge of anger pushing her forward. She made her way toward the living room, where Caleb was casually buttoning his shirt, as if nothing had happened. Solana had already dressed and was avoiding Sarafina's gaze, clearly aware that the storm was far from over.

Sarafina's anger, still raw and uncontained, propelled her forward.

"Why?" Sarafina's voice was a hoarse whisper at first, but it quickly grew louder, each word laced with hurt and betrayal. "Why did you betray me like this?"

Caleb turned, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips, his expression cold, detached. "It wasn't personal, Sarafina. It was business. You were always just a means to an end."

Sarafina's qas shockedt, the sting of his words hitting her harder than anything. "Business?" she repeated, the word bitter in her mouth. "You think I was just a business deal to you?"

Caleb's eyes hardened, the cruel indifference in his gaze cutting deeper than any wound. "It was never about you. It was about money. You were a stepping stone to my destination "

Solana, standing beside Caleb, finally spoke, her voice dripping with condescension. "You were never enough, Sarafina. You were too weak, too trusting. You couldn't see how much you were being used."You thought everything good is only meant for you. I hated you a lot.
