Esther was waiting for them in the corridor, she was excited immediately when they came in.

"How did it go?" she asked curiously.

"That foolish man just disrespected your dad," Philip's mom said as she dropped her bag. Philip and his dad were quiet. They just sat on the couch while Esther and Mom conversed.

"How?"

"He said we are Igbos, he can't afford to bring disrespect into his family, blah blah blah"

"So, Philip isn't getting married to Grace?"

"Which part of what I just mentioned didn't you understand? Abeg leave me, I don taya" She sat on the couch and removed her gele showing her bald head.

Esther shook her head and sat it was so silent and gloomy in that sitting room.

"Philip" Dad called out.

"yes"

"If the child is a boy, we would have to forget that child"

"Daddy, no," Philip said calmly. "I would do you the honor of leaving your house and surviving with that child all alone rather than acting like I don't have a child when I actually do.

"Is it until the child kills you before you understand what your father is saying?"

"I would live with that child alone and love him unconditionally, I wouldn't have a negative thought about my child so there would be no reason for him to kill me"

His mother laughed and clapped her hands in awe. "You will learn the hard way"
