Chapter 8

Mikel was in his room walking back and forth. He remembered himself laughing and couldn't help but feel angry.

Since what happened to him, he hasn't been laughing but smiled once in a while.

He brushed his jet black hair backwards.

"I have to overcome this"

The next day, Erica had begun work at Mikel's office. She was happy no one knew they were dating, she could live freely here at least. While congratulating herself, she was absent minded hitting a broad chest. It was a guy, he was tall but Mikel was more taller.

"I'm sorry" she apologized.

"It's fine" He said smiling which gave her butterflies in her tummy.

She walked away before anything improper would happen.

She was in her office. Today was her first day so she had to make a good impression.

She received a phone call. It was Stephanie, her best friend.

They attended the same university and were best of friends. Stephanie parents were rich as hers but luckily they showered they daughter with love unlike hers. Stephanie left the country to further her education.

"Hey bestie" Stephanie voice rang.

"Stephanie why calling me now, I thought you've forgotten about me" Erica told her. After Stephanie left, they barely had time to talk.

"I told you it wasn't easy here but anyway, I'm coming back today, I'm close to the airport, please come wanna see you " Stephanie pleaded.

"I have a lot of work to do, how about I visit you later today "

"I know you are doing this so you can get revenge, I said I'm sorry, I had a lot of lectures, please come " Stephanie pleaded.

Erica thought for a while

"Ok"

What was the harm, she would be back before anyone especially Mikel finds out. Besides she wants to see her best friend.

She went out of the building, boarded a taxi and got in. She never knew a tall figure was looking at her from above.

Erica and Stephanie hugged each other.

"I missed you" Stephanie said

"Not more than me" they said and hugged again.

Two huge men came carrying Stephanie's brief case.

"how about we go to a restaurant" Stephanie suggested.

"Okay"

"Don't tell me that! You mean Adam left you for that bitch Carolina?" Stephanie said angrily. She couldn't believe that jerk would do something like this.

"Yes and the worst part I'm married"

Stephanie gasped covering her mouth.

"To who?" Stephanie asked.

"Mikel Andrei "Erica confessed.

"You mean the Mikel Andrei, the one and only who owns the city, whose money could feed millons of people "

"Yes we got into a contract marriage for two years and if we don't fall in love, we get divorced but if we do, otherwise "

"Do you love him?"

"No" Erica blurted.

"That was quick, I'm really sorry I wasn't with you all this time. If I was here, Adam wouldn't have tried such, I'm sorry but I'm here now and I'll fight for you " Stephanie said holding Erica's hand which was on the table.

Erica's phone beeped, it was Mikel.

"Where are you?!! He thundered

"Uhm... she couldn't reply.

"Look at the time" he told her which she did. 5:59Pm. A minute to six. She enjoyed her time with Stephanie she wasn't aware of the time.

"I'm coming" She said but the phone had ended.

"I have to go Stephanie, I lost track of time" Stephanie said carrying her bag.

"Why are you in a hurry?" Stephanie asked.

"I'm late, I'll talk to you later" she hugged her before running off to face her judgement.

Arriving at the office. All eyes were glued on her. She could hear whispers.

"She's so incompetent"

"This is her first day and she gave a wrong impression"

"She should be fired"

"I wondered why sir accepted her"

She ignored them all and went to her office. She opened the door and saw Mikel. She was startled, when she realized herself, she breathed out

"Where were you?" He asked calmly. When they was no response.

"Where did you go to!!!" He shouted. Erica closed her eyes. She didn't mean to.

"you told me you wanted to work and I granted you your wish but because of you, i almost lost my deal, I ask again where did you go to?!!"

"I went out, my friend came back so I went to see her" she answered him innocently.

Mikel grabbed her jaw tightening it. She held his hand squeezing her jaw, he was hurting her so much.

"Ple... please stop" she pleaded but he didn't stop.

Mikel was vent on hurting her, when he finally let go of her, he had bruised her.

Tears whelmed in Erica's eyes.

"I told you not to piss me off or you'll regret it and you can forget me going with you to the party" Mikel said walking away.

Erica's back was tested on the wall, she bit her lips, the tears slipping, she looked up sniffling. She couldn't take it anymore, she fell slowly squatting brushing her hair backwards, hugged her knees and letting everything out.
