Chapter 23: Trial (Part 2)

The air inside the courtroom was thick with anticipation. The gallery was packed—journalists, curious onlookers, and, of course, members of both the Jacobs and Miller families, all eager to see how this case would unfold.

Mercedes sat in her designated seat, hands clenched together, her heart pounding against her ribs. Chris sat beside her, squeezing her arm reassuringly.

"You got this," she murmured.

She exhaled shakily and nodded.

DeSean, looking as sharp as ever in his dark suit, stood by the defense table, his jaw tight as he watched Jimmy stroll confidently to his side of the courtroom. The smirk on his opponent’s face made DeSean’s blood boil, but he kept his composure.

Not today, Jimmy.

Today, it was his turn to win.

The judge entered, and the room fell silent.

"All rise."

Everyone stood as the judge took her seat. The trial resumed.

Jimmy stood first. "Your Honor, today, I would like to call a surprise witness to the stand."
