Chapter 22: Protecting the Key Witness

DeSean knew Jimmy wouldn’t take this loss lightly. The moment he and Gary got Jaden to talk, the kid’s life was in danger.

"We need to get him somewhere safe," DeSean said, gripping the steering wheel as they drove out of the community center.

"Safe where?" Gary asked from the passenger seat. "If Jimmy was bold enough to threaten the kid, he probably has people watching him."

Jaden sat quietly in the back seat, hood pulled over his head, his fingers twitching nervously. "I… I can just stay with my aunt—"

"No," DeSean cut in firmly. "If Jimmy finds out you’re testifying for us, your aunt’s place will be the first place he looks."

Jaden swallowed hard, his knee bouncing anxiously.

"How about we take him to Elsa’s?" Gary suggested.

DeSean shook his head. "Too obvious. Jimmy knows I’m close to Elsa. We need somewhere unexpected."

Mercedes.
