Chapter 29: A Turn in the Case

The next morning, DeSean wasted no time. As soon as he got out of bed, he was on the phone with his PI, making sure Marco Herrera would be protected until the trial. With Claire involved, there was no telling how far she would go to keep her secrets buried.

Marco agreeing to testify was a game-changer, but it wasn’t enough. DeSean needed hard evidence linking Claire to the crime, something that would hold up in court.

He paced his office, running through everything they knew so far. Claire drugged Ronnie. Ronnie killed two men. Ronnie tried to kill Mercedes. Mercedes fought back and killed him instead.

It was self-defense, clear as day. But Jimmy wasn’t going to let Mercedes walk that easily.

Gary walked in, a cup of coffee in his hand. “You look like you haven’t slept in days.”

DeSean ignored the comment. “We need proof Claire drugged Ronnie. Marco’s testimony is solid, but if we don’t have anything to back it up, Jimmy will rip him apart on the stand.”
